We have had all this argument about Brexit etc and wanted to put borders up etc but is she telling us that borders do not stop serious world problems that in the end affect us all.. The corona virus aint interested in borders, extreme weather because of global warming aint bothered about borders. Is she reminding us that in the end we are all on spaceship Earth and if we are gonna save ourselves from being wiped out by bugs like the Corona virus or an environmental disaster we have to remember that we need to act collectively as a species to sort it. Division will not save us.
Mother Earth is speaking to us. We would do well to listen.
Read the James Lovelock Gaia books. Scary and mind boggling at the same time...all backed up with a decent chunk of scientific evidence.

Not saying we are doomed Brin yet just that we might be in future if we dont work together to solve global problems.
Mines a cianti by the way.![]()
Globalisation not Mother Earth.
Suddenly even Germany has realised it's got borders.
This is just another serious consequence of neoliberalism/ globalism.
Doesn’t solve everything - somethings will move even if you shut every single border in the world given that these are artificial constructs and not natural barriers..... ash dieback spread rapidly starting in Japan coming all the way across Asia Europe and onto our shores because of its fine spores that are wind borne - True that some of it did come in through imported timber - but its ability to spread on wind would Stopped it by closing the borders only slowing it down that’s all - closed borders can’t stop the weather
I do however agree that globalisation will not last because once oil runs out travel will become more problematic and much more will need to be produced close to where it is consumed some of this technology has already been developed to help with this
However going back to the original post if we don’t look after the planet sufficiently and none of this will matter anyway - both are important for me it’s not one or the other
Anybody see Years and years on the BBC last year ?
Looked a bit far fetched at the time, looks like a documentary now.
Great series by the way.
– Die bank spores crossed the channel no problem fine spores over a 21 mile stretch of water on strong high-level winds was not a problem at all...
