So why knock China? Surely we can look at what theyve done and learn.

Don't believe the claims. If the virus spreads from person to person and populates as reported, I'd be amazed.

If Italy is anything to go by then it’s likely that China have under reported the death toll.

You would think in a country of 1.4 billion that there would be a huge number of deaths but if it is true that Italy has more that is quite staggering.

I work out there 2 to 3 months a year. Im not going to claim it makes me all knowing of everything China, but I do have some local knowledge.

The factory owners are telling me things are fast getting back to normal. Ok still only to about 70% capacity but growing - and some industries are still not back after Chinese New Year.

One thing that did help (my opinion and no scientific evidence to support it) is that it happened at the start of CNY when all factories were about to close. I think that helped authorities to confine and isolate and lockdown. They did not allow any factory to reopen for a further 2 weeks after CNY.

When workers went back every factory had to test employees daily.

Im sure you have dealings with China through the steel industry.

There was a time but not now. Not a chance. Tisco and other Chinese producers make great quality steel but .....

Have you ever spoken to a material inspector who has been asked to mechanically test material for an oil rig or nuclear plant?

I’ve seen test pieces from 3 different casts, all with identical chemical analysis values shown on test certs from Chinese suppliers. Heard too many stories.

If it’s critical applications, Western European Origin is requested 100 times out of 100.

I don’t mix and match and I believe in supporting local suppliers, whenever and wherever possible.

Traceability is everything.

Hope it stays that way. Maybe one day we’ll make some decent stuff in this country again.
