should a construction worker on non essential work go to work or not? [bear in mind " so long as he maintains the distancing protocol"

Good news. Better (3 weeks) late than never :

UK coronavirus mass home testing to be made available 'within days'

Not so sure home testing is a good idea as there will be those if tested negative who won't be able to resist going out
Save the tests for those on the front line

Think this is brilliant. Agree though with you Exile you still cant resume your life if you aint got it but not had it yet.I would love to know though that i had already had it without really knowing and then being able to get out again. It would be a chuffin relief I would tell ya!I suppose the problem is then you could still get pulled up so you would need some sort of proof for the police etc that you were in the clear.

Agree front line workers need priority though. If they tested our lass who is a front line worker and she was clear cos she already had it there would be a good chance I had as well.

You are asking me if they should? The basis of our discussion is whether they can. I haven't checked recently but last I heard they could.

Yes I'm asking for your opinion should such workers go into work?
Should employers in such circumstances require non essential workers to go into work?

I dont see why anyone shouldn't go into work as long as they can maintain the 2m rule at all times. So large construction working should be ok. I was watching some workers today who were working on building a new housing estate and they were well apart. The problem comes when you have workers on a smaller project like in a house...

My personal opinion is that if it isn't essential then I wouldn't want them to go to work. I'm not sure how essential and non essential would be deciphered. Maybe they are working on that list as we speak!! I can't imagine that being a simple process.

The only people who could truly know this are the companies themselves. They should take responsibility. Then you get people like Mike Ashley as a retail example who try and find a loophole even when they are told to close.

So one worker who may have Covid on his hands picks up a tool, for instance & then another worker picks up the same tool hey presto
