A rampant self-publicist? Please provide evidence. I think that since he declared himself in the running, he has kept a respectful tone.

Looks like Gardiner is the 1st one in the skip/composting bin. Shame, I always thought he was one of the better performers.

Thatcher openly endorsed Savile by inviting him into her house. This encouraged people to give him the benefit of the considerable doubt which existed at the time.
Where does the BBC fit into that concatenation of events?
You don't half put yersen on a pedestal. Why is he slipping into a "mode" ? Maybe it's because he's got something to say that you don't agree with. Tw@t.

If your point was that it is unfair to blame Keir Starmer for Savile's crimes, then the best way to make that argument was not to play tit-for-tat by dragging Thatcher into it. You could blame everyone or no-one for failing to do more to halt the activities of Savile, and if you're blaming everyone, then the BBC was a culpable as any, giving him a TV platform for at least three decades and a programme that portrayed him as a hero for children and gave him close access to them.

I actually agree with Elite's point that Savile fooled just about everyone right up to and even after his death. His funeral was reported as a fawning celebration of his life with pictures of cheering crowds lining the streets and his coffin being buried at an angle so he could "look at the sea over Scarborough". Only months later did the truth start to emerge, to the surprise of many.

How very clever! Exit strategy priority - whilst we're struggling to get to grips with the crisis. What's that about then? Perhaps if he has the time he should come up with a plan.
