    Is Gary Neville right?

He says that Premier League clubs who have furloughed their staff should have a transfer embargo placed on them in the Summer.

The Chronic actually sensationalizes the whole thing by putting it on the main website page under the bleating headline 'Gary Neville calls on the Premier League to ban Newcastle united from signing players in the next transfer window'. Actual mentions of Newcastle United by Gary Neville? None.

Load of absolute shite, that rag. He doesn't mention us but does say that it's a bit much for clubs to be furloughing staff and cutting players' wages one minute then paying massive amounts for new players in the Summer so he's suggesting that teams who do furlough their staff can't buy players this Summer.

I'm not sure a total embargo would work but maybe for every million a club spends on a player they have to then give a percentage of the missing wages back (to the staff first as they'll be in much greater need).

    Thoughts?

yes, any missing wages should be made up first -

anyone know if businesses have to repay the govt later ? like self employed people do? as in its just a loan from the govt to tide them over until they are earning money again.

and they shouldn't have any money for transfers if they didn't have enough to cover staff wages.

Considering the waste of money by Prem clubs on poor purchases, high wages to less than average players and extortion by agents I would imagine that there isn't one club in the Premiership which needs to grovel in so far as to use any sort of furlough.

I think he's right, Zip. Maybe not specifically on all his points, but right about starting the debate. The thought that come summertime, these clubs will be spending big money on players again while their staff is on unpaid leave is just horrific to me. So unfair.

And I like your suggestion about finding a way of paying staff missing wages back somehow; that should be the top priority and it shouldn't even be a choice.

Yes, Neville is spot on. I said this last week, a transfer ban. I would also put the fat **** back through the fit and proper owners test.
Spurs have just reversed their decision to furlough staff. Those in the media went after Liverpool and Spurs. The obese thief seems to get an easy ride.

Now Spurs have been shamed into reversing their decision, it's over to you Mr Ashley.

The media went after Spurs and Liverpool when they did it, they then reversed their decision. Ashley doesn't have to do anything. The media won't go after him and if the season restarted this week he would still have 52000 fans through the gates of St James'. This is why he does what he does.
Its no good every Newcastle fan moaning about him then doing nothing about it. Sick of reading fans slag him off then turn up in numbers on a match day and buy merchandise from his Shìte Direct club shop. He won't change if you don't.

It’s all very well Neville saying what he has said everyone has an opinion.I don’t think he would have said anything had it been manure.

Firstly the F.A. And secondly the government should have made the guidelines/rules a lot more clearer and taken the decision out of the clubs hands.

I think it is a question of morality
Of which our owner has none.
