Football as we know it could be finished

While there is talk about playing and finishing the season behind closed doors, i can't see spectators being allowed back any time soon if ever.
This virus is going to be around for a long time, maybe for good.
It has already mutated into 33 different strains according to reports, this is why vaccines are ineffective.
Can you imagine a crowded Old Trafford or Emirates, and a handful of people in there who have the virus without knowing?
    What about next year's Euro's?
I hope i am wrong but I think this will change our social lives and the way we live forever.

    I don’t.

I said weeks ago it’ll become survival of the fittest Des......”natural selection” as nature intended.

People, including me,will make the decision that they need to take a chance.

The virus is killing around 1% of people it infects so we’ll have to accept 600,000 U.K. people are going to die if no vaccine is found.

I’ll put up with this for 12 months plus whilst they try to find a vaccine and then I’ll take my chances if they fail.

In the end it’s about “managing” the deaths and the death rate more than anything else.......we need people to die at the rate of 6000 a week over a two year period to be able to cope.

Great time to be an undertaker.

It's what I have been saying all along Mick but we have had our wires crossed.
The virus itself is only responsible for a relatively few deaths or contributing to them.
The problem is that it is taking up hospital beds and people with other ailments are missing hospital appointments.
When enough people have become immune the virus will disappear. The trick is when to lift the restrictions and on what scale.
I can't see large gatherings being allowed for quite a while, hence my post.
It's knowing what to do and when and i don't think anyone knows that yet.
Trial and error i would say.

You saying a great time to be an undertaker reminds me of the story of the 1832 Cholera epidemic, 700 plus people died in a month in Bilston alone. One undertaker was bragging about the trade he was doing until he died from it as well.

I think you have a point. I can see one of the big things to come out of this crisis will be a re-evaluation as to what is important. I think many people will be looking at not just the NHS staff but shop and care workers just to name a few and realising what valued roles they play in society. They will then look at some of those self entitled prima donnas in the EPL who have made the press for all the wrong reasons earning more in a week than the aforementioned earn in a year and ask themselves if its something they wish to continue supporting.

Football is a flawed business model, a bit like many airlines. This virus is exposing the weaknesses. Expect a few to go bust. I'm not sure how many people will care tbh once we've got through this.

Yep think your right before CV people who thought they had an important job realise it's not so important and people at the so called low end jobs are in many ways more needed. it's made me stop and think differently about everything. And after 50 years of being wba mad could not ever see myself not bothered with it all and like you said footballers earning £350000 pound a week will be way down on people's prioritys when thinking about buying premier League season tickets at least Albion tried to look after there staff unlike some of the so called big boys

I think you are right Lost City Albion. A lot of people are looking forward to the pubs opening again, but i aren't.
I think this could be a final nail in their coffin.
I used to go for the social aspect and the groups, but i can't see that happening for a long time.
If I want a drink I can always call at the local shop.

I do miss my Friday night in the pub. It’s a small village pub, no food served, just a place for drinkers. The last time I went was about a week before the lockdown and they were checking the temperature of everyone going in and the tables, chairs and bar area were being cleaned constantly. Anyone coming in that was found to have an above normal temperature would have been asked to leave. It’s a pub that has no casual trade, all are villagers and regulars (or both!) so there was no problem. If the same procedures were put in place in a few months time, I would go back. I wouldn’t go to a Wetherspoons, though!

I wonder what this is doing for peoples s e x lives and for the birth rate?

I’ll bet all of those having affairs are having a nightmare trapped at home with their partner 😆😆

Neither of the above affects me so I’m not sure why I’m interested 😫
