If the economy is not unfrozen soon it will be 20 years to get back to where we were in February.

I think he's going to struggle with that, the public started the lockdown a week before it was official and they'll end it as well.

I think the impatience is aimed at the 6 Tory donors who were yesterday getting twitchy about the lockdowns affects on the economy and was reported in the newspapers .

The public are starting to possibly go out more , the roads seem busier than of late but that's about it , every time I've popped out to do some shopping everyone is just getting on with it and behaving well .

There's a bit of a divide growing in the cabinet apparently on the lockdown , Gove and the Chancellor are getting worried whilst Hanc@ck wants the lockdown continued .

With the country heading towards the second highest death total in the world the Tory donors and cabinet supporters may want to reflect on that .

The daily death toll needs to come down significantly before restrictions are eased in my opinion , possibly down to almost single figures .

That's weeks away .

Not sure where you get 20 years from GF, the banks are in a better position to lend (dons tin hat) as they are ten times better capitalised than 2008, for growth you need access to finance. There have been some forecasting models released by various economists and organisations based on "U", "V" and "W" recoveries the optimists will think a bounce back will be quick.

There are certain industry sections that could be severely hit, for retail and hospitality it doesnt look good

I don't know about four more years of Tory government, it’s more likely to be forty if your arrogance is typical of the mood within the Labour Party. Lisa Nandy seems to have got it, but it seems to have passed you by.

My comment here was in response to Roly's assertion that the voting public are ignorant and should read up on socialism. I suggested that the public would object to being called ignorant and indeed that is part of the problem, so in effect I agree with you. However, the point under discussion is that I suggested that the public understanding of the term 'socialism' is very different to what most people in Labour mean when they use the term (although not all). What I was intending to say was that people who have studied political systems understand the different terms, and variations within them, whereas the majority of the voting public do not, are not particularly interested in it. However, without a doubt the voting public will pick up the definitions of the word 'socialism' through their media reading, and in many cases I don't think the definition put forward (Russia, Venezuala etc) are what most of us on the Left intend or want. Therefore I am suggesting that our own, sometimes proud (but not for me personally) use of words 'socialist' and 'comrade' work against us as the public associate the word more with communism than social democracy.

If you personally feel that the average voting public member has a well rounded knowledge of political model terminology then I can only say that I disagree with you. Why would we expect them to? But at the same time, what is wrong in recognising that 1) terms that people on the left often proudly use terms like 'socialism' and 'comrade', are understood very differently by the public and 2) that understanding is, in part at least, influenced by deliberate distortion by many media outlets who see even a form of social democracy as a threat to the status quo. On this we disagree I know, but tough
