Out of interest, how would you measure "general approval"? I'm interested in taking your £50 bet if you specify the conditions.

I'm sure our resident pebble crushing machine salesman is far more qualified than I am to make judgement on this, but my completely uninformed knowledge of big business deals suggests only two options:

    1. The equipment they supplied did not meet the specifications on the order so we are entitled to a full refund.
    2. They supplied the specification on the order but somebody in government f@cked up big time, so we are entitled to no compensation.

I really hope it's option 1, but we'll have to wait and see.

The bet's been offered to Driller. I trust him and he trusts me and if we go ahead, I'm sure we'll quickly agree a way to work the conditions out so nothing get's complicated. Possibly something like the result of a national poll or the average consensus of more than one. The important thing being we both agree and stick by it, which I know Driller will.

On your other query. I've no idea who did the procurement order for the PPE that became a problem. I assume the Government (any Government) will have their own 'buying arm' of civil servants all with their own individual political views. There are far more conditions of purchase attached to this particular order I would suggest than you mentioned, as from memory, these people follow protocol to the letter and are very professional.

Opinion polls carried out up to this Wednesday by YouGov, and a couple of other less well known pollsters, show support for the Tories at around 50.5%.

You could have the ultimate paradox of low Corona Virus credibility with continuing confidence in other areas. Its all very confusing, and my supply of Gin is running low

It isn't obvious. Any polls done on here regarding voting intentions in general elections always show a right wing bias compared to the actual vote.
Even UKIP got around 35% of the vote in one of them!

Well as you must have said a hundred times, there is no objective truth and everyone just believes what confirms their biases. So that explains it.

We have hit the '100,000' tests twice. On the 30th April (what a surprise!) and the following day. Since then we have missed it for 6 days on the trot. But not to worry. George Eustace (Environment Sec) said it is down to daily fluctuations and regional variations.

Sorry Mr Eustace, very poor excuse. I was wondering what has happened to Matt Hancock but maybe he's sticking stamps on the 'tests' being posted.

Too be fair, if people don’t go and get tested then what can be done. I know I haven’t been tested as at this moment I haven’t needed a test. Has anyone else needed a test and not been able to get one due to unavailability?

Also, if folk want to be pedantic, the Government committed to hitting 100k tests by 30th April, which they did.
