    Bradford City Fire Disaster

35 years ago today , hard to believe it's that long ago , yet not much publicity surrounds this Awful event , equally as bad as Hillsborough in my view , although Hillsborough seems to be mentioned on a regular basis The same applies to the Heysel Disaster , never hear much of that also ,

I was playing cricket that day.
I remember hearing it on the radio during the tea interval.
I went to listen to the football scores in the car - Shocking.

Well there's a good reason for that , at the Bradford and Heysel disasters the Inquiries findings were accepted as a true cause of both the tragedies .

At the Hillsborough one they were not because the families instead of just accepting it , not moaning and simply shrugging their shoulders decided to do summat about it .

Turns out they were right to too .

Both Bradford and Heysel are never really mentioned though , as for Hillsborough I have my own views on that , no matter what the courts decided ,

Seems to me that both Bradford & Heysel were investigated properly
    In the case of Heysel

A total of 34 people were arrested and questioned with 26 Liverpool fans being charged with manslaughter—the only extraditable offence applicable to events at Heysel. An extradition hearing in London in February–March 1987 ruled all 26 were to be extradited to stand trial in Belgium for the death of Juventus fan Mario Ronchi. In September 1987 they were extradited and formally charged with manslaughter applying to all 39 deaths and further charges of assault. Initially, all were held at a Belgian prison but over the subsequent months judges permitted their release as the start of the trial was further delayed.

The trial eventually began in October 1988, with three Belgians also standing trial for their role in the disaster: Albert Roosens, the head of the Belgian Football Association, for allowing tickets for the Liverpool section of the stadium to be sold to Juventus fans; and two police chiefs—Michel Kensier and Johann Mahieu—who were in charge of policing at the stadium that night. Two of the 26 Liverpool fans were in custody in Britain at the time and stood trial later. In April 1989, 14 fans were convicted and given three-year sentences, that were half suspended for five years, allowing them to return to the UK.[23] After Belgian prosecutors appealed the sentences as too lenient, an appeal took place in Spring 1990 that increased the sentences of 11 fans (to four or five years), with two having their sentences upheld and one being acquitted.

Now compare that with how SYP went about their business & note only 3 years from disaster to trial in Belgium, 30 years in UK

Same day as Bradford fire disaster a 15 year old boy was crushed under a collapsed wall at St Andrew's (Brum v Leeds) 500 were also injured that day in rioting

Tragic day all round, one of the darkest days in football

I was at Bloomfield Road for the Blackpool / Bolton game when a lad was stabbed to death in the early 70's.
I was on the 'kop' and we were all kept behind until everyone gave their details. Scary times.
Not safe for kids & women. Darts & bricks being thrown.
But the football was good & honest.
