Instruction to go back to work?
Yes? For those unable to work from home, they are now to go back to work. The instruction will come from their bosses, understandably keen to pick up productivity. And I get that, of course. But if it leads to packed transport, should the government be allowing it, given the likely impact on spreading again?
I'm all for moving forward, but the point I was trying to make is why are we not planning sensible and safer movement of people on transport that at least has a chance of maintaining the social distancing that we all want? This was a free for all, people doing their best, having to go to work, wearing masks, but at that level of compactness it becomes dangerous for them and wider society. Surely that bit can be planned by the government to minimise risk? We can organise quotas in supermarkets, then with some thought, planning and resourse, surely we can plan it for bus and tube services? Just need will and basic competency!
How can you do that on the tube without having 'security' on every platform or in every train car? You can limit flow at the points of entry but once they are in the system there's no control over where people are moving around, getting on/off etc. Even if you could then policing it would be chaos/anarchic. We are requesting/advising our bus riders here to wear masks but what can the bus driver do if they don't? He can tell them they can't board and any respectable person would comply, but unfortunately many city riders are homeless, under the influence of some substance or have mental problems. What do they tend to do if challenged? Many decide to gob at the driver, very nice I'm sure even in normal times.
Love him or hate him you have to admit Trump's coronavirus briefings are miles more entertaining than ours.
First Casino reopened here yesterday, was overwhelmed with the response and had to turn people away. Good to know where peoples' priorities lie with regards spending their hardship cheques from The Donald. Social distancing was in place as were many other safeguards, not that it matters much as all Casinos are all on tribal land and are not governed by State Laws.
In Portugal they literally fence off 2 thirds of the seats and employ a member of staff to ensure that social distancing is happening. More complex on the tube but restrictions on the numbers of people coming in and out of stations as well as adaptations to the train carriages. We're meant to be on a war footing, so I would say don't open transport until there is a plan for x numbers of people to suit the transport and staff it appropriately. If this is about getting the economy going again, getting the people who work the economy back to work, then staff the transport systems. Otherwise we go back to lockdown again.
If anyone's looking to invest in the stockmarket at the moment i would suggest any companies who manufacture or supply perspex or similar plastic dividing screens
