Extraordinary timing I must say, just as we appear to have a chance of playing again for what we were supposedly fighting for, Ardley gives them the green light to forget play offs and wrap it all up today and hand the opposition promotion. I shouldn't be surprised really.
I'd be interested to know if our owners are on the same page.
Not sure this has been reported accurately. He wants a crack at the play offs if It’s on the table. If it’s not then he is content that the top 2 go up and that Stevenage deserve to be relegated.
Maybe it’s a bit of reverse psychology as the top 2 have effectively told the National League what to do, where as Ardley is playing a more softly softly tactic.
At the end of the day it will be what it will be. It’s out of our hands. I hope that we get a fair crack at the play offs. If not I am confident that we can destroy the league next season.
He MUST have been interviewed before today's news, otherwise I'm sorry to say the man is a complete and utter fool, but I think this has to be the BBC dropping a 80!!0[k on our behalf, either by accident or design. I cannot believe Ardley would be THAT stupid to make those remarks in response to what the EFL have announced this afternoon.
I've just read it again and going by the choice of headline I think somebody at the BBC has screwed him/us over, it very much looks as though he made these comments prior to the EFL announcement.
Ardley is quoted as saying
"I don't think a team that's won three games all season and got a lot of things wrong and struggled - there's a 93% chance they would have gone down anyway - I don't think they should be given a reprieve, compared to somebody like Harrogate, who have had an outstanding season,"
Now that we know relegation will take place, that strongly suggests he made the comments either this morning, yesterday or earlier. For them to publish that article after the goal posts have shifted again, with that headline, is bang out of order.

I should point out, that we did this interview this morning. Before this afternoon's EFL announcement

Just watching the full interview here.....

Charlie asked him if the club will take legal action if the club is denied the play offs, Ardley said it's not for him to say. Interview ends with him saying we need a decision on the play-offs now as he needs 4 weeks to prepare and the 30th June deadline on contracts would be an issue.
Much as we all want a crack at the playoffs, I don’t think it’s going to happen now. The cost of testing everyone on the staff will be prohibitive, way beyond the budget of clubs at our level. Sure I heard a figure of £150,000 on BBC Sport yesterday.
As frustrating as it is, Barrow and Harrogate will likely be promoted if Stevenage or Macclesfield go down (EFL said it’s dependent on the NL playing next season) and we’ll just have to try again whenever next season starts (my money is on late August/early September).
