I’m totally against Violent protest, totally against Police (or other forms) of Racism, and brutality. I’m against the lawless Looting, and destruction of people’s livelihoods by ransacking their businesses and shops. . I think I’ve made that clear. I could quiet easily have been on that March....... you don’t know But I wouldn’t have been looting a shop, nor would I thankfully have been at the front throwing bricks, endangering people’s lives, as a marcher or a copper. I suspect Some of the coppers on that March loved it....but also Some would have quite easily taken their uniform off and joined in.
I don’t know enough about the protests in Poland, I’ll have to read up, but I don’t remember reading about looting etc bringing change.
As I said...... I’ll read up before holding it up as an example....

The point I'm making Jules is that the Tory Party might want to get their own house in order before they start getting all righteous .

They might want to reflect on their own leader who they elected and some of his previous comments that are on the record .

They might want to look at their Home Office and the Windrush episode which includes their previous leader .

Don't be getting all righteous with me Ms Pittel when you lot fan the flames to get yourselves elected .

Now you know I don’t bat for either political party hard. I rarely enter discussions on politics on here. Ever.
I couldn’t really ( and this will probably Make you say “Well you should”) work up a sweat about who rules me. I’m a sheep. I don’t believe that whoever gets in are in it for anyone other than themselves. I do vote. As I think at the time. I am a floater ( I give you that one for free Exile). I feel relatively good about my life, I believe the state looks after the vulnerable.... ( and the shirkers and scroungers probably too well).

Kier himself said yesterday (or Sunday) “ it’s not how we do things here”.
In China the removal of statues, burning books etc occurred in the early 60s, taking away “history” in the cultural revolution. The freedom of the people then became less open, not more as they thought it would , and even today it’s not an open society, nor safe to speak out (look what “allegedly” happened to the Covid Whistleblowers).
I would rather be naive, and have the freedom we have, and not go down the revolutionary path, which hasn’t really resulted in freedom for the Russian and Chinese people.

I believe that racial equality and advances in opportunities for ethnic minorities have made headway over the last 30 years. We're making progress in my opinion.

I watched Jamelia (the singer) on BBC news this morning and amongst the things she mentioned was that opportunities for non white people to start businesses is far less than what white people have. She shouldn't be making statements like that without backing it up. From where I'm standing we have many businesses run by ethnic minorities. She was afforded 15 minutes of news time which is quite a considerable amount of time for a news slot to bombard us with her opinion without anything she said being put into question.

On a personal note my next door neighbour's for example are Sri Lankan and collectively run 3 separate businesses. They are out at the crack of dawn and not back till 9pm 7 days a week. They work very hard and speak good english and have taken to this town over time.

When they moved in we got talking and they said that they were wary of Barnsley because they heard that it had a bad rep in terms of being a racist town. I could understand that but I assured them that it's not what it was 30 years ago and to be open minded.

5 years later they love the place and the people. Unfortunately they encounter the odd unsavoury incident from time to time from drunks but they dont let that blight their opinion thankfully because they've experienced first hand that Barnsley isn't what they led to believe it was.

I've learned much about their culture and they've learned much about mine since they moved in. We exchange cookery tips and sample each others cuisine. I wouldn't say that they're my friends and the feeling is probably mutual but there's certainly respect there and we look out for each other.

The home secretary is British/Asian, so is the chancellor and the man that preceded him. These are positions of high power. The NHS has provided opportunities for foreign doctors for as long as can remember. Opportunities are there for everyone if they're willing to work hard just like the rest of us as far as I'm concerned.

The government should make it compulsory to educate children in social equality and social studies. None of us are born racist are we. I look at my 2 year old daughter and there's no evil or malice in her eyes, she just sees people. I will do my upmost to make sure it stays that way as she grows older.

Equality works both ways and justice should always be done. A blind eye was taken towards the ***ual abuse in Rotherham. That is scandalous and things have to change because equality means fairness and balance. We have to be careful that we don't tip the scales too far.

    A great post.
A balanced scale must be the ultimate aim. With respect on both side.
