I couldn’t really ( and this will probably Make you say “Well you should”) work up a sweat about who rules me. I’m a sheep. I don’t believe that whoever gets in are in it for anyone other than themselves. I do vote. As I think at the time. I am a floater ( I give you that one for free Exile). I feel relatively good about my life, I believe the state looks after the vulnerable.... ( and the shirkers and scroungers probably too well).

Kier himself said yesterday (or Sunday) “ it’s not how we do things here”.
In China the removal of statues, burning books etc occurred in the early 60s, taking away “history” in the cultural revolution. The freedom of the people then became less open, not more as they thought it would , and even today it’s not an open society, nor safe to speak out (look what “allegedly” happened to the Covid Whistleblowers).
I would rather be naive, and have the freedom we have, and not go down the revolutionary path, which hasn’t really resulted in freedom for the Russian and Chinese people.
I know your a bloke who finds the political system a huge turn off and I think Pass does too to a certain extent and I also think up and down this country people are too and for very good reason .

To be honest with you so do I these days , I'm never going to vote Tory and I didn't vote at all
last December , I've resigned from the Labour Party twice and didn't vote for them in 2005 either .

I'm 60-40 on the new leader at the moment , that could get higher as he goes on and its early but I already know which direction of travel he's going and is why I didn't vote Labour in 2005 .

So you have to ask yourself in reality what is the fecking point ?

Why do we even need to have political parties at all ? .

Take the fecking lot of em out of it , they've all had a good bat of the ball and all fecked up .

What's wrong with having local government and less Westminster .

Why can't Yorkshire run it's own affairs , why not have an authority with no political affiliation , made up of people from business , nurses , police and other emergency services , ordinary citizens , skilled , un skilled , small business owners in other words a true representation of the people all dealing with local issues .

Why not test the water with a county and see if there's any legs in it for 5 years , the same term as a parliament gets .

Sounds pie in the sky but why should it be ?

Perhaps it's governments that are the problem and not the solution they all claim to be .

It's certainly a difficult conundrum but not an unreasonable suggestion at all mate. I'll quite willingly and openly admit that I'm out of my depth when it comes to politics. The reasons being that I don't take a very keen interest in political affairs, obviously I'm aware that it exists but my knowledge is limited through my ignorance and lack of interest- a fair comparison on my knowledge of politics would be that if I were to go on mastermind and they gave me a set of questions about Sheffield Wednesday FC, I'd probably only be able to correctly answer a quarter of the questions that a full blown Wednesdayite would.

My ignorance and lack of knowledge is ultimately because I lack faith in political leaders which has led to disinterest but also because growing up in this town, it was almost compulsory to vote Labour without being given an in depth knowledge of what other political parties were about. You just were led to believe that you followed suit and voted Labour, no questions asked.

That's not my way of doing things nowadays. I always try to see both sides of the coin. The older I've got, the more I realise the importance of diplomacy. Putting all your eggs in one basket isn't necessarily a good thing and leads to argument and ultimately disappointment. I try to be as liberal minded and as sensible as possible in life.

Unfortunately, I can't contribute to the subject of politics in a way that I can feel that I've done myself any justice. My knowledge is very limited. Reading through political debate on here is sometimes interesting but I'm not willing to make myself look an idiot by contributing my own opinion to the proceedings simply because it lacks depth and knowledge.

    I'm with you Pass.
I watch the news and take an interest but can't get excited about it.
This political party nonsense is like Celtic & Rangers. Neither side will give the opposition any credit or help (no matter what they might say).
As for counties running themselves, it's great in principle, but isn't it just like Sturgeon's mob in Scotland?
They were always going to announce their lockdown a week before or a week after ours. If we can meet 6 people in the park, they can meet 8.
Everyone sees it as a sign of weakness.
On a different subject, I watched the 1966 World Cup final on Sunday.
Top professionals, but playing the game how it should be.
No time wasting (we could have won that in 90 minutes if we'd run it into corners, or done a bit of play acting.
When it went out for a throw in/corner, they didn't leave it for them to fetch, they passed it back to them.
On the subject of statues, isn't it strange how many people (black and white) know the history of slavery inside out, yet when you see them on game shows and reality TV, most people under 30 don't know when the battle of Hastings was, what the capital of France is, or anything about the Second World War.
Racism is much less obvious than it was 30 years ago, and is improving all the time.
Not as fast as it should be, but it will always take time because you can't legislate for what people think, only what they say or do.
As for black football managers, using Raheem Sterling's examples, who would you rather manage your club, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Sol Campbell or Ashley Cole? That's nothing to do with the colour of their skin, and you can throw Paul Ince in as well.
By the way, I'm sure there are good black candidates out there.

Absolutely spot on..... your Two posts today that sums up exactly how I feel. Especially that last paragraph. Sometimes “Chipping in” means getting dragged into a debate you know you can’t finish...... so you shut up and carry on........... Bit like marriage.

I like the idea Animal, but just imagine how the arguement would go as to how these people would be chosen....

I hope Benny Hill doing his Chinese Man sketches or George Formby doing his Mr Wu songs don't get banned or my source material for Dog comments will be lost.
