I think someone in authority (!) needs to remind Joe Public either black or white that our police officers are citizens in uniforms and just like the rest of us, have families and homes to go to.

I have been looking back at some of the images from the protests. One is of a young man carrying a placard saying “the UK invented racism”. I am sorry for this boy because clearly our educational system has failed him. Failed him and countless others. We can do better. I should be aiming to do better.

One thing we don't put on the curriculum is our despicable colonial, imperialist past.

Huge fortunes were made via asset stripping, slavery and just about every other nefarious activity we could dream up. I'm pretty sure the Greeks and Romans beat us to it on just about every front though outwood?

If these contemporary kids need something to really get excited about it's the Tory attitude towards the Caribbean people brought in to bolster our post-war economy and take up the jobs we did not have the manpower to do ourselves.

One word: WINDRUSH. Now that is a scandal worth getting into a lather about.

What about the question of morality? Can morality be taught in schools ? Teachers only emphasise, 'don't do this ,or don't do that ? The only pathway is to follow a spiritual path ,I do not say religious because of the ''we and they,'' Be it Christians or Muslims,Jews and Muslims ,its always 'we and they'.Spirituality encompasses the whole sphere. People say ''I follow neither religion I abide by truth I harm no one. That's all that is necessary nothing more is needed,I also tell no lies! Morality is only an effort to lead a well strong and constructed life,perhaps more correct to say it is a dynamic force, because the balance in outside spheres of life is kept going by waging a pauseless war against all opposite ideas. If the unbalanced state of mind is disturbed at any moment the show of morality may break down.
That is why morality should not be ones aim in life but a state higher,a spiritual aim or goal.
It can not be said that a moralist resists a bribe of hundreds ,will also resist a bribe of thousands. Not to indulge in falsehood is not the aim of life, the tendency of telling lies should be dispelled from ones mind

The treatment of the Windrush generation by the UK government is disgraceful.
The people of the Windrush generation were invited to come to UK shortly after the end of world war two. They came here to work and assist the British economy grow after those war years.
After some sixty to seventy years the Home Office, who presumably had been instructed by their political masters, decided that those people and their descendants had no right to remain in Britain. This was and still is a national shame that we as a country cannot recognise the work those people have done in helping the British economy grow and that they be automatically granted British citizenship. Most of these people came form countries in the Caribbean and were at that time part of the British Empire as it was then called. They have spent most of their lives living and working in the UK, which include paying their taxes.
I firmly believe that there is deep rooted racism within our government, which came to the fore in the Brexit campaign. This is not only in some of our members of parliament but also within the civil service.
I would like to see the government take a stand to change their policy and support these people, demanding that the home office withdraws all their threats of deportation permanently.

I hear what you say army88, but I vehemently disagree.

Time and time again Johnson and the Tory party display the kind of overt racism that blows my mind. Read post 106, it's eloquence takes some beating.

Time and time again Johnson and Pritti Patel have had the opportunity not to deport people who have made their lives and families here.

Quite often these people have no familial connections in the Caribbean and yet they are still chucked on "Do One Airlines". Tory policy often, and much too often for my liking embarrasses me to be English.

for a true perspective - Balan....need to always look at the pre-colonial situation, as in other countries - India had rival states, the sultans/kings/empires were at War...the soldiers were the people - their crops/taxes supplied and supported their military - who's officials owned much of the land and monetary control - the few ruled the many and the few held all the wealth - So I see Colonialism much as a modern management company - they organised the system into a more efficient machine - and took a cut for their trouble....the divided leaders of old would just as before....take their share of the booty - and with much less waste and more control over the people - became even wealthier.
