I was quite happy for Neilson to lead us in the Premiership but I've certainly not lost any sleep over his departure. For me Wright is the only candidate that can give us that stability and our best fighting chance of staying up out of all the names being mentioned. He may not be the man to give us the swashbuckling,free-flowing attacking football we all crave but he would give us our best chance of survival in our 1st season back up and steadily improve us season after season.

If the N.I job falls through for him then we should 100% be making him our no1 target.

No more gambling please DUFC, get it done.

Tommy Wright would undoubtedly be the safest option. Regarding the style of football it has been assumed that his preferred style is not be silky. I am not sure that is fact. What he has done is get the best out of relatively small team on a small budget and that means being tight and organised. If he had a bit more money and leeway in the transfer market who is to say more of the shackles wouldn't be released on the style of play.

100% to the previous two comments. You can only go with the c()ck you’ve got to piss with and TW produced unbelievable, but most importantly, consistent results with extremely meagre resources. Jackie Mac could have learnt a thing or two about working to what you’ve got after we lost our ‘golden’ generation for example, where attempting to play the same sort of football with Durnan, Donaldson, Telfer, Erskine, Zwick, MCGowan, Bodul, Spittal et al was footballing suicide.

Tommy Wright currently is the single, most outstanding candidate currently that ticks every box we need and if we get him, frankly I’d actually see it as a managerial upgrade. And we’d be financially up on the deal at the same time to boot.

From the outside looking in it appeared he then used this to leverage a new contract with St Johnstone as he had no interest in going to United at all.

For what its worth, I have no problem with this. If Tommy Wright fancies the United job, he is well worth an interview.

Although we keep talking about Wright but need to remember that Scott Burns, the Daily Record reporter, who is quite clearly getting fed info from Asghar (go and look at all the Exclusives he has had on us in the last 18 months), has already said him and Levein are not under consideration so either Wright has no interest in United or we have no interest in him. Either way, he isnt the favourite anymore... McCulloch is but I think thats just down to recent paper talk.

What a load of nonsense. He didn't do one over on us at all. We asked to speak to him. We were told no. Whatever then went on at McDiarmid led to him getting a contract extension. Not once did Wright express a desire to manage us.

I think any aversion TW may have previously had toward coming down the A90 was more about The Snake rather than Dundee United Football Club................
