hopkin not been mentioned much by anyone which is good as i personally don't rate the guy. thought he done well with livi but failed down south and his morton team were brutal.

Im surprised Holt hasnt been mentioned much either. done a good job with Livi esp considering they lost some key players last summer.

However, Holt is a very similar mould to Tommy Wright.

I would have serious reservations over Holt. Livi’s stats are so ludicrously skewed between home and away results that I would have no confidence that their league performance is purely down to his coaching. Far, far too risky IMHO.

Let's have a wee guess here for all posters on the board. What percentage will be happy with the appointment when it finally happens?.I hope i'm wrong but i reckon it will sway towards the negative and be around 40%.

Mind you if message boards were on the go in 1971 McLean would probably have got about 20% approval.

I dont think theres been a single person mentioned that has had universal support.

At this point we just have to trust the board make the right call and we wont know how good thay decision is until 10-15 games into the season (maybe even longer).

I cant see us making a terrible appointment. There are enough people out there for us to get someone who has the potential to do well for us.

Agreed mate, although our owner knows F ALL about football he is a very successful businessman. If he wants to turn United into a profitable club he knows this appointment is crucial.

I just hope no one at the club is asking him to promote from within.

Yeah, the McCulloch thing is a bit of a worry. I dont doubt that he could do an OK job. He has probably learnt a lot from Robbie in the last year and if he was given the job I'd expect another experienced coach to come in and support him alongside Forrest. At the end of the day he was a top quality player in his day. He knows the game, he know the players. So it wouldnt be a disaster if he got the job imo. It just doesnt sit right with me though. I think I'd have a bad feeling about it.

Maybe him and Forrest going to Hearts with Robbie would be a good thing in the long run.

I hope if McCulloch got the job it was for genuine reasons and not a ‘Get It Up Ye Robbie and Budgie’ and find yourself another assistant. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face...........

Remember when Houston was about to chuck it after getting hammered at Ibrox (Boyd got 5 ) . Webster apparently grabbed the dressing room by the balls and ultimately we went on to win the cup that season. Real leadership qualities . He's been working in the st mirren academy , with a wee bit of experience alongside him it could work. There is hardly loads of standout candidates but maybe that's one to think about
