Landed on the 10th of June 1944 in Normandy and was wounded at the Battle of Caen, but not badly enough for him not to be there when the Allies pushed on into Germany. As I think I’ve put on here before, my maternal grandad was killed at Arnhem aged 26. He was Irish but lived in London.

My other grandad fought the Black and Tans in the west of Ireland. Another glorious chapter of British history, going round a foreign country killing unarmed civilians and setting fire to property. The Labour party put forward a motion in the HoC condemning the actions of those representatives of the British crown, but obviously the Tories voted it down.
