My guess is that the PL are waiting until the end of the season to see if the Suadi's moves to combat piracy have worked.

How long would that leave us before the transfer window shuts?

The ‘new owners’ should just announce it now, call the Premier League’s bluff and challenge them to call the deal unlawful saying that the league and those tasked with making the decision aren’t fit for purpose. What would the league actually do? Suspend us, relegate us, on what grounds - based on a breach of rules that would be challenged in court as in all likelihood as unlawful? If this decision is too big for those having to make it, they need to hold their hands up and say they don’t have the necessary expertise rather than bumbling on for another three months. When you look at that mismatch yesterday, it was like a pre-season friendly between a non league side and a premier league team and the league, by dragging its heals on no basis whatsoever is actually endorsing one of its clubs having the life sucked out of it and not even trying to compete - the self styled ‘best league in the world’ - no way. They have the chance for a pre-money compatibly sized club to compete again with a club that’s almost on a different planet now but it’s taken 14 weeks of dithering and how ever many more to follow to not make a decision. It’s even taken a manager who’s universally unpopular with supporters to call them out and fair play to Bruce on that and yet still on the Monday morning after that debacle last night, they remain silent. So back to the start of this response - call their bluff, assume the ‘test’ has been passed, let them try and fail it and prepare for the court battle which would probably be as easy a walkover as it was for Man City last night.

To be honest, I think a non-league side would have shown more fight than we did, Probably would have passed it better, too.

I watched Whitley Bay win a league in 1990/91 and they had Kevin Todd in the number 10 role, probably as good if not better than some of the dross on display last night. I think after that, I’m past caring now, it was hardly unexpected but actually watching it with the knowledge of what could have been under competent owners but having the current one cling on for the past 13 years and now knowing when he’s been forced to sell up, it might not happen I think it’s utterly hopeless getting emotionally involved any longer.

I'm interested to know how many on here are not just worried but somewhat sure that this takeover won't happen?

I'm still at the unsure stage, Hughie. If pushed, I would say it is going to happen, especially given the steps the saudis have taken against piracy. It's all gone quiet since then so I'm hoping that, as I suggested earlier, the PL are just waiting to see that these measures are genuine/effective/permanent or whatever before they sign off.

I guess that's logical because otherwise the Saudis could just be paying lip-service to the whole deal and revert to their old practices as soon as the deal is passed. My worry is how long the PL might make them wait-the longer it goes on, the more it will have an adverse effect on our transfer dealings. Weve already given Carroll a year's extension, Manquillo a 4 year contract, ffs, and signed a reserve goalie from Motherwell-all dealings that fit perfectly with fatso's 13 years of shite. I'd argue that none of these deals would have happened if the Saudis were in charge already and the fact that these deals have been done when we're seemingly so close to being bought out is baffling to me.

Do these deals reflect the fact that we're still a long way off being sold? Are the PL actually going to wait for the end of the season then look at the data to see if the piracy has stopped (or been massively reduced) by the new measures? Have the buyers been made aware of this arbitrary period (I say 'arbitrary' because someone at the PL will have decided on 'x' number of weeks to see if the measures are effective and unless there are more moves to come from the Saudis then they've done what they needed but the PL haven't passed it yet so there must be a 'wait and see' period). If they know about this 'test' period (I've talked myself into believing it exists-what else could the delay be?) then, fine. If the PL have just said 'wait and see'....how long will they wait before they think they're losing face and sack the whole thing off?

Ok, I'm rambling and talking myself round and round in circles here when i should really be writing reports.

It’s those signings that have concerned me as well, especially the three & four year contract ones - exactly the type of thing we’re used to after the past 13 years. Plus the absolute silence from the league, it wasn’t too much of an issue when the football was suspended but now that the league has been decided and relegation & champions league placing will surely be decided over the three games or so, clubs will be preparing for next season. If this takes say another three months of their dithering and we miss the transfer window, how can we expect to even compete at all next season? June 30th is the cut off point usually and to go beyond that without an answer is totally ridiculous but I’m now resigned to the continued wall of silence for who knows how long. When ever this whole process started - must be around Easter, we’ve had delays with bank holidays etc. You think surely by end of April, May, June and now two days away from July and no guarantee it’ll be announced then either. That spectacle last night just showed how broken the club is now yet with a decent manager and not a crazy amount of investment, which is waiting in the wings, we could improve the quality of the league yet the league is so incompetent it continues to faff around and not make a decision. I’m rambling as well but the thought of yet another week and probably more of this ongoing farce is sending me crazy!

That's okay, I am at work too doing f*ck all whilst my colleagues are really stressed out. But I've offered my help and there are no takers, so the work I'll be doing will be Newcastle-related for the meantime...

And I so agree with your points as well. It's been a lot of back and forth, but hopefully it's just around the corner. It's hard to get an impression of where the takeover is 'at' right now with no news about it coming out. Although more news could just be more shite.

I'm just totally pee'd off with the whole thing.

beginning to think I just dont care - but **** sake even if passed eventually the premier league committee should be sacked and tarred and friggin feathered for all to see the spineless useless *******s they are.
