Son just phoned me from Manchester Piccadilly railway station, Tui have cancelled the holiday to Lanzarote, with the new corona virus out break, he had gone on the Manchester airport train, from Swinton connecting at Meadowhall to Manchester airport. So now on his way back home.So looks like another lock down developing in Spain.

The Manchester airport train runs through Swinton & Rotherham, but anyone has to travel to Meadowhall to connect, seems stupid.

Tui & Jet2 cancelled all holidays to Spain, after British government say travellers coming into the U/K from Spain will have to self isolate for 14 days.
Wish they have decided earlier, Tui notified my son at 9 pm tonight.

I see that statistics on fixed penalty notices for breaches of lockdown rules published today. 70% of all fines were to men under 45 while ragingpup's socially conscious demographic, 18-34, accounted for 57% and were four times more likely to be fined than the population as a whole. Apparently BAME young men were 1.6x as likely to be fined as whites. I have read the accounts in The Guardian, The Standard, ITV and BBC and all of them accuse the police of unfairly targeting minorities. Not one account asked the obvious question: were BAME men more likely to be fined for the simple reason that more BAME men ignored the lockdown rules? I don't know but find it typical of current attitudes that the question isn't even asked instead the police are accused of racial stereotyping. We are doomed as a society.

We had exactly the same issue here with fare evasion on our light rail system. Black ridership constitutes 10% but they make up 20% of fare evasion numbers. Conclusion. Discrimination by fare enforcement officers and policies need to be changed.

Meanwhile some companies here already announcing that due to COVID working from home has been extended through June of 2021.

    I don’t get this.

Does a fare enforcement officer have a “gaydar” that sets off a buzzer when a BAME or LGBT fare dodger comes into range?

On London transport there are more “foreign looking” folks due to tourism.

Or does the BAME person bring up the topic as a vain attempt to avoid a fine and/or prosecution?

Or are white folks let off? I doubt it because TFL try to collect every penny they can.

They actually have a process they must follow. They board the train car and one officer goes to each end (the cars are not interconnecting). They work their way to the middles and treat every passenger in exactly the same way, check their ticket or pass and if a valid one is not shown the offender's name and details are taken. I ride every day and have seen this in action hundreds of times. Despite this, black riders are being discriminated against because of the following figures, ridership followed by evasion percentages.

    White 55,50
    Asian 17,15
    Hispanic/Latino 13,10
    Black 10,20
    Native American 5,5

Even those us who work for the agency and have unlimited passes have to show we have tapped on before boarding. If we haven't we get a citation in exactly the same way and have to go to court in exactly the same way.

(PS Evasion officers are mainly Asian, Black and Hispanic/Latino)

Seen the same in DLR many times, the ticket inspector goes from person to person down the car, missing nobody out.

    I’ve been checked many times
