This type of thing makes me nervous. We have an extremely patchy record of signing lower league English players...

Agreed, but important to remember the man signing them will have had numerous looks at them over the years.

Yeah, I don't doubt he knows these guys but there is a big difference playing in English league 1 and the Scottish premiership. In my opinion our league is absolutely miles ahead of that one in terms of quality requirements of players.

"nowhere like good enough" thats a bit harsh. We clearly need to strengthen but pre-season and 1st game of season has not given any reason for us to think we are nowhere near good enough. We showed on Saturday we can compete against an established team and without that mistake or Shankland burying his chances we would have won, and probably won comfortably.

We need some more quality in the wide positions and defence but it is more in the mentality department i have my doubts about current players, we need the players (or new players) to beleive they are good enough and dont completely go off the boil for a period when we concede. If that was Celtic we were playing on Sat they would have ran riot in the 15-20 mins after the equaliser.

We'd never be able to match wages of players that play in the Championship though. So then you are stuck with going for other Scottish Prem defender (inflated fees selling to a rival) or lower league Scottish defenders in the Durnan mould. Risks all over the shop but I'm sure there a plenty of examples of league 1 players in England being comfortable in the Scottish Prem.

The main difference in the Championship and Premiership is the in the latter you've got to take your chances or you'll get punished. I remember noticing that when we're got promoted last time.

I don't doubt that but our historical record in this regard is patchy at best.

Who else have we signed from league 1? I'm not being funny or argumentative, I just cant think off the top of my head. I know Connolly was in league 2 when he signed for us.

The CB Edwards appears to fit the bill for me. Hope that's a deal that gets done.

However, Norwood doesn't sound like a good fit for me. 29 years old, surgery on his groin twice in recent years. Not for me I'm afraid.

With Shanks, Clark and Appere, we have three decent strikers in the 1st team squad.

Would far rather we concentrated on getting a good midfield creator signed. Especially one that can take a good free kick and has some goals in him. For example, a Barry Robson or Badger type player.

Recently? Nichols? Going back (off the to of my head), Paterson? Alsford, the list is pretty substantial I think.
