Well, is it any real surprise that the vote was given to him ? Probably not. An excellent player no doubt, but also a player that won nothing this season, and who went missing during last nights shambles out in Portugal, where his coach was tactically out manoevered, by his opposite number who got it spot on , on the night. Compare De Bruyne’s contribution with Pope. 15 clean sheets to start with, in a team that was outstanding since lockdown restarted. He also faced a lot of shots against him, and was superb in more than one game, which undoubtedly made a huge contribution to the Clarets finishing in a very very respectable position. Not bad for a team that was tipped to be playing at the likes of Notts Forest, Stoke City and Huddersfield next season to name but a few.
My own opinion. Pope plays for the wrong club. Burnley Football Club wasn’t a big name compared to teams in the top six.Thats the reason why he wasn’t’ chosen. I’d like to know the real reason why De Bruyne was chosen, wouldn’t you ?

Only one keeper won it and that was Peter Schmeichel in 1995/6 when he played 36PL games and kept 18 clean sheets in a season when Man United did the PL and FA Cup double.

Honestly I have no idea what this thread is on about. My Jamaican mate Clyde would certainly say De Citeh is nowhere near as good at footie than De Lyons.

Alto really hits the nail on the head. In the 26 seasons that they (whoever 'they' are) have been awarding this accolade it has gone to a player who was playing in that season on 15 occasions.
It has only been awarded to 3 players who were playing with clubs who finished outside the top 4 on three occasions.
In 1996/97 Juninho won the award whilst playing for Middlesborough who were relegated ---a special player without doubt.
In 1999/2000 it was won by Kevin Phillips playing for Sunderland who finished 7th. He scored 30 PL goals out of a total of 57 which the club scored!
In 2012/13 it was won by Gareth Bale playing for Spurs who finished 5th.

Indeed he has and Pope would have been a worthy winner but the only accolades Burnley will win is as the unlucky victim in Goal of the Season. If you want a cast iron certainty of an award then you need go no further than say penalty and Manchester United.
