According to Wiki, after Notts he went to Bradford as assistant, ended up as caretaker, then went to Mansfield as Head of Football Operations from Jan to May 2019. He also beat prostate cancer during that time apparently.

This is my main concern. We don't have anyone on the coaching side who (on the face of it, anyway) will ******* the players when needed.
I recall Abbott acting the giddy goat with Derry a lot. Ardley has spoken on quite a few occasions about players having not followed instructions re set pieces, is Abbott the man to help sort this? I hope I'm wrong but I can't see it.

As with everything Notts, we'll have to wait and see but on tw@tter and faceache the expectation for this season seems to be Champions? Not so sure about that meself.

I agree. Someone like Doyle who could be bad cop to augment Ardley's more considered character seemed to be the key requirement. Ardley must have his reasons, and I really hope this works well for Notts, but it is a bit of a surprising choice.

Players often police themselves. If Doyle sees fit he will be dishing out *******ings as I am sure some of the other players will. The onus isn’t completely on the manager or his assistant to sort things out.

It's not completely on the manager, no, but ultimately it is the management team's responsibility when things are going wrong to rectify that, and I think and Ardley/Abbott ticket is going to end in failure.

If anyone guessed this one right, please could you send me your guess on the lottery numbers? I must admit I thought it was a joke when I first read it, but on reflection I think you can look at it in two ways. The negative view is that we are going backwards over old ground that ultimately ended in failure. The positive view is that we've got someone who at this level is a highly qualified and very experienced assistant manager.

Greg Abbott is obviously Ardley's choice, and seeing as the owners have trusted Ardley for the coming season he deserves to pick his own man. Player recruitment has been much improved since the Reedtz brothers took charge, I just hope it continues on the management side.

Based on nothing but a gut feeling!

Maybe in time you will be proven right. For me it’s only fair that he is given a fair crack with a clean slate.

If a manager can't get the players to listen to instructions, what chance does the assistant have

Not just a gut feeling - we've been here before when he was part of a management set-up and it ended in failure. Perhaps during the time he's spent away from the club has resulted in an improvement in his coaching/management skills. Fingers crossed.
