Yes but if he sees an old pro being signed he is smart enough to know he will move down the pecking order.[/QUOTE]
Right, but you stated ‘that he’s easily good enough for the squad, but he won’t do for Ardley’. If that were the case, Ardley wouldn’t have offered him a deal?
If Ardley does decide to bring in another player, and we don’t know that is the case, it gives 4 players for 2 wide positions. Which is right in my book.

Yeah he has been offered a deal but let’s not forget he wasn’t even 3rd choice he played O’Brien wide in the play offs so if another comes in he is going to drop down further and he will know that.
The only chance Osbourne has here is if Ardley is sacked.
We have a terrible culture in this country I remember hearing so called “experts” who have all played for big clubs/countries saying Trent Alexander-Arnold he can’t defend and he can’t do this the lad is only 21 playing at the very highest level and he has way more plus points than negative if he is getting this level of scrutiny than it is not surprising a no mark like Chettle is saying what he is supposed to have said about Sam.
You make some excellent points. In terms of academies in the area then we must be well down the pecking order if we are being honest. That’s not to say we shouldn’t have one though.
For many years I’ve said on here we really need to forge good relationships with our neighbours namely Forest, Derby and Leicester and try and get young players from their academies on loan. We’ve had a few good ones from Forest in recent years. Even wider afield like Aston Villa and Celtic.
This is why a club like ours should never have dropped out of the league. There is enough pool of young talent in our area that a couple of decent loan players or released academy players could do a job at L2 level. That’s why I believe clubs like Rochdale, Oldham and Bury (until their financial problems) could always build a league team because they had Man City, Man Utd on their doorsteps and players that went for trials or were released from those clubs could stay in the area.
I think what we are doing now as a club is right. Build a young team that are hungry and cherry pick young players that may have gone under the radar like Cal Roberts and maybe some of our new signings will be similar. These kind of players can move up with the club or if they become good enough move upwards onto better things quicker than the club rises. No more +32/33 retirement players wanting to top up their pensions with the exceptions being characters like Doyle and O’Brien, and others in the recent past who have played at the highest level such as Jon Stead, Alan Smith, Shola Ameobi.
A sprinkling of quality loan players like Grealish, McGregor which are the best young players we’ve had on loan in the past ten years would help make a good squad in the Lower leagues

So, Ardley does believe Osbourne is good enough for the squad? Your original point was that he didn’t.
Currently - do you believe Osbourne is better than Enzio and Roberts? I don’t. Is Osbourne worth a place in the squad? I believe he his, so does Ardley.
In terms O’Brien. The move out wide worked in the semis(selected ahead of Enzio also)so Ardley went with the same line up in the final. Didn’t work and I hope it won’t happen again.
With regards to Trent Alexander-Arnold, not sure what your point is here or what relevance it as to Chettle supposedly giving an opinion on Osbourne. But anyway, when TAA first came on the scene, he wasn’t strong enough defensively. Still not the strongest part of his game, but the positives now out way the negatives.
Which high profile experts were unconvinced about Alexander-Arnold ?
Name and shame
That's a loaded question Freeman "Drop one of our "best" players"? I could be sarcastic and say No, I'd drop the most useless one..... (Edit: Comment not aimed at any particular individual) Not my point though. My point is that in my world there is room for Roberts AND Osbourne, in a team that drives forward with pace and passion. If you'd prefer sideways crab football with the team consisting of players who cant get in Motherwell reserves you are entitled to that view of course.

My point made perfect sense, you just missed it. You tried to make the point that if youngsters came to our academy they'd likely get more first team football, I listed those Forest players because they show the opposite is true, they're far higher up in the leagues with Forest AND getting first team football, because their academy and ability to pick and choose the best young talent around here ahead of us and Mansfield allows them to, anyone looking at academy's needs to take one look at Forest's squad and you wouldn't worry about your kid getting held back.
It's not that loaded unless you think Osborne can play in a position that isn't the wing or you'd like an inovative formation with 3 wingers. Sloth is a central midfielder so whether he plays doesn't affect Osborne, he's competing with Roberts and Enzio and isn't as good as either.
How many good games did you see Enzio have last season ? I went to every game, and in many games he was very average or poor. Only occasionally did he excel with his wonder goals. At least when Osbourne played he did at least put the effort in, and score a couple of good goals.. Regardless of how good he could be, Ardley will always pick his cronies..
I didn't see every game and agree Enzio doesn't produce enough. As for Osborne, I don't know why Notts offered him a contract. He is way off being a first team regular and should be looking to move on to a club where he can get regular football. Putting in effort is the very least I expect from a professional footballer but sadly it seems not always the case.
