But it’s all about opinions and football certainly throws some of those about.

Wrong! You will find it was the Bilic connection that brought in Pereira, Krov and especially Diangana with West Ham connections. Dowling was responsible for Zohore who is a pile of s hit and Ajay where personally I think he may struggle in the Premier. That leaves Robinson who to be honest did not impress me - yes he played well against QPR but he missed that goal which Gayle would have buried!

Any incoming players who are decent will again most likely come in because of Bilic so hope Dowling keeps out of it and just signs off what Bilic wants!

I think I’m right, Bilic recommends the Players but you will find that it’s Dowling who has to get them over the line that’s his job. If the price is to high he pulls the plug if the wages to high he pulls the plug . Bilic can recommend Messi or a n other but if Dowling thinks it’s wrong for the club he pulls the plug.He is the technical director doing what he was bought in to do.

Technical Director means it’s supposed to be him spotting the talent and looking for gems not Bilic.

You don’t need a Technical Director to crunch numbers that’s what the accountants do like that t w a t Garlick used to do for us.

This is the problem with Albion,we try to do everything on the cheap and end up with people promoted or employed above their ability but on the right wage!

Dan Ashworth was a proper Technical Director.......he went out and found the likes of Odemwingie and Mulumbu.......he didn’t need Mowbray or other managers to give him a list.

Downing is no better than Garlick.

It’s embarrassing when you consider the recruitment at places like Brentford.

Wrong! In any job it's about sourcing and identifying the talent so in that case it's down to Bilic.
Bilic will know the constraints and budgets and what he wants being the captain of the ship.

Had it not been for Bilic the players mentioned would not have been identified and they came, because of Bilic and certainly not Dowling. Bilic will know the budget constraints and what fits into the business model, so if he recommended Messi as per your example for West Brom, the Board would consider him to be a complete idiot. Bilic is one of the best managers we have had so a sensible guy and knows which talent could fit into our business model at the right cost.

PS - Darren Moore may have recommended Messi as he's not the sharpest tool in the box as a manager, although he was a legend as a player!

When I think back to Mulumbo and Yacob with Odemwingie up front - wow! Livermore, Sawyers and our strike force are second rate in comparison!

Ashworth was fantastic and that's why he went places! Bilic will still identify quality as don't rate Dowling and if Bilic left - Dowling would identify a new manager starting with the letter A!

In your eyes perhaps but not mine. The term legend gets thrown about too much. In many online instances it's probably because legend is two words less to type out than modern day hero. Legends are men such as Tony Brown and Jeff Astle etc. Darren Moore's in the modern day hero bracket for me.

That’s what I meant and 100% agree with you. Astle and Cunningham were legends

I have never put Darren Moore in the “legend” bracket.

To me G Mac would be a more deserving candidate for that title but in truth he’s a “Modern Day Hero” as suggested by 68.

Same with Bob Taylor and Andy Hunt.

Ronnie Allen and Derek Kevin were well before my time but they were legends.

I think you need a stellar career of a few hundred games and possibly a pot or two to be a legend at a club like ours.

Cunningham is a strange one because he didn’t play that many games for us or stay for more than a couple of years or so but was such a stand out that he’s deserving of the term.

In the last 35 years I can think of no true legends but the top heroes for me would be,

    Gera

    Brunt

    G Mac

    Foster

    Odemwingie until the QPR excursion.

    Sneekes

    Taylor

    Hunt

Lee Hughes ( if you omit his crimes )

Neil Clement sneakes in for me for his sheer effort and will to win.

    Lukaku

See Leeds are spending 35m to get in a proper forward. Why are we always so far behind everyone else in terms of our ambition? It's a rhetorical question!!
