Useful mention of Cantona in terms of the statistical and received opinion about him when the Serge bought him - trouble, misguided, luxury player, not fit, misfit, not a team player, poor stats.
Not saying Mr Rod (too many d ick references in the team if Koch also signs) is going to be the next Cantona, but given the man in the hot seat has the midas touch most of the time with turning also rans and half-decents into a championship winning team, who knows what this 29 year old could do for us? Let's wait and see and be happy we've actually started buying people.
Good job we don't have a midfielder called Roger.
If by the "turning also rans" you mean much of the 1st team squad who were here before he arrived being transformed I'm with you.
If you mean the rag bag of imports that were acquired since he arrived, not so much (with the exception of Harrison and Bamford to a greater or lesser extent respectively). Costa, really? Robert's, really? Casilla, you have to be joking (despite HOs valiant defence of the indefensible), Nketiah never got a chance, and as for the others (Halme, Cibiki etc) well, nuff said.
Nit sure why we should be happy just because we have loosened the purse strings? Value for money and getting the right product for your money is far more relevant and the timing of this acquisition (if it transpires, still no official announcement) is relevant only because we have, as always, pi33ed about trying to nickel and dime our way towards PL survival.
As you say, we will see what we will see.
There are only six teams that are nearly always guaranteed Premier league status,so there are 14 teams with not much between them left to fight out the relegation places ..It will be interesting to see the usual scrap for places next season .Leeds have as much chance of staying up as the rest of the others.
1. WTF you cannot cherrypick your stats in whatever competition you want. If so, i can say that Rodrigo's goal ratio in the Champions league is 1 in 3. Not a bad goal ratio in a high level competition. 2. Firminho's goal/game rstio is about 1 in 5 but his club has done pretty well. On the other hand, Harry Kane's ratio is better than 1 in 2 but Spurs are nowhere near as good as Liverpool at the moment. 3. Lastly, Rodrigo scored winners in 2 big games in the champions league against Chelsea and Ajax. Its difficult to quantify or evaluate this quality.
Reported that Bielsa took less than 2 minutes to approve the attempt to sign him noting the big step up in quality. If the ram rod is good enough for him ......
I wasnt cherry-picking (pun, intended or not?)
I gave exactly the same statistics for all four players, 3 of which OWT mentioned as comparisons for Rodrigo. So, apples with apples comparison, no interpretation or spin from me.
"Lies, damned lies and statstics", old adage, sometimes true, but I didnt choose the comparison players and I didn't produce nor interpret the numbers, just re-stated them.
And surely you dont suggest that exceptional performances such as Rodrigos in Champiins League matches mean anything other than next to f00k all in a 35+ game season
"Its difficult to quantify it evaluate this quality"? You been taking the same stuff that HO seems to consume in vast quantities? Leeds have, apparently, done just that, and blown £35m(ish), on a player who is totally unproven in today's PL.
But as always when I post, I'm accused of subterfuge and underhand tactics. As I've said, we will see what we will see. I've admitted when I've been wrong, be interesting to see how many are prepared to do the same when "The Rod" goes limp.
