How on earth is it a can of worms? If he's unfit, they call someone else up. That's the way it's worked forever.
He's not the first, and wont be the last player to be called up while not currently fit enough to play for his club team. Some may see it as an unnecessary risk. Others will see it as more minutes under his belt towards full fitness.

Young boy from Rochdale and its in the Wegia
The Twitter thread about The the Rangers interest in Shankland is a mixture of people rubbishing it, people saying he's not good enough and people saying he'd be a good option to have on the bench. Precisely why he should stay where he is.
Shanks back at training today according to his instagram! In the Scotland squad after MM indicated that he is in the plans for Saturday against Killie (possibly on the bench) so I wouldn't read too much into him being selected and not playing!
At the end of the day, if an offer comes in and he wants to go...then he'll be off and we will deal with it. but there is no point worrying about it!
Agreed.
Would be a shame though to lose him after only nearly a season in the (ahem....) Diddy league.
Would love to see him play this season and prove ump**** (jealous) currants wrong about the level he can play at.
One more season, we win the league because oh his 40+ goal haul, then he moves on for 20 million with everyones good wishes.
Simple really
PS: t e e n ........... is still a bad word on here (seemingly)![]()
Injured. The end.

If we'd known back in July that SLoA was to play but one game out of the first 6 (& consequently no goals) we'd have been a bit concerned. But we seem to be taking it quite well.
