I like Turner and he did well for Notts last season. However, he had a nightmare in the play-off final, yet remained on the pitch despite Ardley having the option to bring on Rawlinson.
We currently have three good centre backs at Notts but I do hope Rawlinson is utilised better than he was in the play-off final!
Just to point out, the club released Rose so he was hardly untouchable

What with the rumours that our new owner's Pater is rather rich, we should be pretty flush.

I don't think we released him as such, it was pretty obvious that he'd been offered a contract elsewhere that we couldn't match.

If that's the case, why hasn't he signed already?

I would guess his agent is weighing up the options. We'll have to wait and see.

Football League signings are now salary capped so either he couldn't have been on a decent whack here or he hasn't got anything lined up.

Rose was fairly untouchable but only because we had nobody else for a large part of the season with O'Brien missing a lot of games, Doyle missing games through suspensions and Booty missing a lot of games. We released him now and Ardley has immediately signed Jake Reeves and Casper Sloth with probably more to follow.

As for Rawlinson, he played every single minute of 25 of our last 27 games, it doesn't get much more "first choice" than that so I wouldn't be too concerned because he missed the playoff games, we have no idea what kind of fitness he came back from the break with but it's presumed Turner played because Barnet have some big lads to deal with, Turner martialed them perfectly and kept a clean sheet so Ardley didn't change a winning team.

As for taking Turner off during the final, I've never been a fan of changing your centre backs mid game unless you have to or you're winning comfortably, but if you're already losing keeping him on probably makes more sense because of his aerial threat if we were going to go route one. Ardley probably also didn't want to waste a chance to make subs with a like for lilke change when we needed to attack anyway

St Mirren offered him a contract but he turned it down. Must have thought he could do better.

If someone has scouted Mitch Rose extensively last season and believes he deserves a pay rise based on his performances over the course of the season....... Well good luck to them.

We needed and still need better in that position.
