I enjoy opinions of others but all that some do is run how our club is run. We do not know anything that is going on behind the scenes we need to trust the board not constantly have a dig at them. Dowling has done a decent job for me and I hope he carries this on in this window. I think some will be Pleasantly surprised by some of the players we bring in. But others would moan about something if we bought in Messi, Ronaldo , oh there to old. My glass is half full until the transfer window shuts then if we haven’t had a good window I will say , but some of you will not give them a chance
This sums up pretty much where I am right now. Couple of weeks before last season started I predicted a 14th finish.

Why 14th? Had we not taken the cheap option with managers we would have been automatically promoted in a better league than this season. So missing out to Villa which we should have won had we not gone to Vile Park to park the bus - most would have said we were favourites this season under a real manager like Bilic! Had there been a prolific striker like Gayle we would easily have been promoted with games to spare! Can’t believe after the ( in out of HRK or Austin ) in the championship where both were not good enough - this is one position that’s not been made the absolute priority going into the top league! How many chances in each game will we get on average in the Premier - 3/4 if very lucky so a ruthless striker needs to take an opportunity. Bit like the almost open goal Robinson missed against QPR which could have been costly - these chances in the Premier won’t come around much so a decent striker needs to convert!

We are nailed on 20th and by a street as things stand.

To expect anything else is borderline delusional.

And some people wonder why supporters like me didn’t celebrate us getting promoted and said the only ones who will benefit are the Chairman, agents and players. Who is really surprised with what has happened so far, not me.

PL is just about money and unless you have plenty of it and are prepared to compete what is the point of just being in it?

Quite right. There is no competition as we already know who the top 5 or 6 will be. The only unknown element is whether it will be Liverpool or City who win the title. All a bit pointless really isn’t it being in a league where the biggest prize you can hope for is not getting relegated?

Why 14th? There are so many reasons I could type a very long answer to this but here is a summary.

    1. 6 weeks before the season started we didn't have a manager. Names banded around on here Adkins, Hughton, Appleton, Cowley, Bowyer. The only thing that little lot would have given us is boring negative football.

    2. We had no players. Of the X1 that started the first match 5 hadn't been signed 4 weeks before the season started. The 2 stand outs from last season Pereira and Diangana didn't sign until after the season started

    3. Our front 4 for the 1st 3 matches
    Phillips, Krovinovic, Edwards, Zohore.

4 Was I alone in my pessimism? Go back and look at what was being posted on here in June.
Here's 1 there are many more of a similar ilk.
"Just a long it's not Slaven Bilge, ( not a spelling mistake, he is pure bilge) we need a host of new players and his record of signings is very poor"

I was in a much danger of being classed a 'happy clapper' as I was negative!

So apart from no manager and no players I was full of confidence.

In terms of recruitment we had a mountain to climb last season and the 'recruitment team' did a great job in building a team good enough to get us automatic promotion. Now OK last season it was Mont Blanc we were climbing and this year it's Everest. I'm in the very concerned camp but not yet the pit of despair.

    btw

Who posted this and about whom?

As much chance as the yellow man attending two games a season!

I’m with Yarmy on this one, our life in the championship over the last 20 years has been incredibly exciting, bar the odd game and result it far outweighs the prem. When we are in the prem we are passengers on someone else’s bus! The issue we face is finance, to compete at the top of the championship you need funds, premier league parachute money and the squad we bring with us provides that. Football is broken and set up such that the big clubs will always be in control, Sky money has ruined the game.

Much prefer the Championship, it’s like the old First Division, teams go out to win games unlike the Premiership where the first aim is not to get beat and try and avoid relegation.
Shelf life in the Premiership is probably 7-8 seasons, the time is nigh for teams like Brighton, Burnley etc

Haven't got time to read the whole thread but having skimmed through a few posts it never ceases to amaze me how many bear so little relevance to a thread title.

Deeney's still got a bit about him and is capable at this level. Sadly his best days are behind him and my gaster would be well and truly flabbered if we agree to his reported wages without bringing in legs around him.

If he comes expect us to sign some speed merchants as on the surface there'd appear to be little point otherwise. I honestly don't know which side of the fence I'm on re Deeney but money goes further with joined up thinking.

It's more fun in the Championship, but the fun is chasing promotion to the top flight. If we didn't have that it would be no better than the Prem.
Once in the Prem however, all we have is a relegation battle. There are around six big clubs, around six clubs who will stay up (prime example: Everton) but achieve nothing and the other 8 will toy with relegation.
Very few clubs break this trend. Leicester being the most recent to do so (maybe the only one) though Wolves had a good season last term.
