you have me wrong there Swale, im Christian by inclination but always up for a bit of a josh at my/our expense. no issue either with folk having a bit of doorstep fun with evangelists of any persuasion, im no evangelist in fact im probably a bit of a black sheep, ive gone toe to toe with local 'management' about such issues (and me defending) gay child adoption.

i would however sooner open the door on well meaning and polite but misguided folk that a guy with an oozy because id had a laugh at his Gods expense yet its the JWs that get the flak. although a different strand of bigotry its in the same orbit as those ' broadly non racist' folk i spoke about - there are cultural and racial easy hits too

But a completely rational objection to aspects of a belief isn’t ‘bigotry’.

If you have ludicrous beliefs, many of which are patently untrue and spend your time preaching on the street and peoples doorsteps, then its likely your going to get flak. Not a shred of symapthy, nor do I see how you make out its Bigotry, I am happy to tolerate the JW's, they amuse me and I wouldn't ban any religion unless it involved illegal practices. You kind of sound like those very people you have been complaining about the so called PC Brigade!

Your straying into the stereotype, that crticising Islam or parts of it is more dangerous than criticising Christians, as my friend in the States often reminds me, mocking Christianity over there is just as likely to get some unhinged fanatic at your door waving a gun!

As I've posted before I know the game you play, you think its subtle, to me your completely transparent.

Damon I thought we were making friends!

You should sense check your rant though, in your second paragraph you manage to suggest I’m falling into a stereotype but then do exactly the same yourself with a quite vague anecdote without even drawing breath.

You need to look at the definition of bigotry, someone with the stamina of Tricky would root out dozens of your rants that cross the line from banter to bigotry and that’s not a criticism, I don’t think many folk are as pure as they think they are

Anyway, end of, we’re off the subject

Ah so if I dislike Nazi's I'm a Bigot? if i dislike people who lie and cheat for a living I'm a Bigot? if I dislike people who trot out right wing media tropes I'm a Bigot? If I find a bunch of people who make up a religion with patently false statements I'm a Bigot?

As for the vague anecdote, I thought you'd appreciate that seeing as vague anecdotes seems to be the evidence you base most of your thinking on!

Rant? Blimey if you call my reply a rant then if I really went off on one you'd be shell shocked.

No we are not likely to be friends, not particularly interested in someone who trots out crap most of the time to be honest. Its fun watching you tie yourself in knots and contradicting yourself in posts though, carry on

I think we all would Andy. For me it's, as with Swale, they come to preach and they get preached back at. Bible quotes and all. The guy with the Uzi probably realises he wouldn't have a prayer in any discourse. They come holier than thou. I show them otherwise.

With regard to "Christianity", the basic "rules" are a more than reasonable way to go about life and, I would hazard a guess, most, if not all om here, think most of them are reasonable and sensible things tofollow.

The first 3 are to do with God, as I don't believe in a God, I ignore them. Some may say, at my peril, but, thinking about them I don't break #1 as I don't idolise any God I might get away with that one
#2 is one most of us would have broken at some time or other taking God's name in vain, I know I have
#3 I break the Sabbath, or both of them actually as Jews see it as the Saturday, Christian Churches have it on the Sunday.
#4 Honour Mam and Dad. I'm with the respect and even the obey bit when they are young. Once your mind is sufficiently developed you can respect without hte necessity to obey.
#5 I haven't killed anybody yet and am not intending to so I'm OK on that one
#6 We've probably all indulged in a little unmarried s e x , masturbation and some ****. I did once have a short lived relationship with a woman who turned out to be married which I ended as soon as i found out. A couple of years later I was the cuckolded one. Maybe serves me right. Not guilty on the rest.
#7 Thou shalt not steal. Fine on that apart from stealing the odd kiss.....
#8 We have all embellished the truth at some point
    #9 Covered that with #6
#10 I'm OK with that although I have had odd pangs of jealousy on occasions but nothing huge and nothing that got me to break any of the other commandments

All reasonable stuff. On number ten I do get more than a little jealous when I see someone playing a guitar properly!

Our local vicar is a fellow Rush fan so I can’t dislike him too much although not sure he holds me in such high regard as I told him if it came to renouncing my faith versus renouncing my love of the Rams it doesn’t even come close.COYR despite it all...
