It's alright lads, cos we've learnt from it. Phew.

It was certainly poor. Three goals given away. That was my biggest concern. Two of those were blatant defensive errors, the other came from a midfield error deep in our own half which York seized on very well.
Second half wasn’t quite so dire. I thought Doyle made a difference, and there was more of an attempt at incisive attacking play, with quite a lot of nice touches which didn’t quite come to anything.
Sam is a worry. There’s no evidence that he can head the ball, and we need more from him than occasional good footwork. He could still come good, but I’m not very convinced.
York did all of the basics right, we did all of the basics wrong. I hope it’s a wake-up call to the whole squad that they need to roll up their sleeves and get to work. And why do we continue to struggle against 3-5-2? Is it really such a fiendish formation to counter? We really seem to be making football look very complicated at the moment.
I had the good fortune to be roped into grandson-sitting duty this afternoon, so didn't get to watch the live stream. I intended to watch it in full later this evening but couldn't face it after seeing the score, so I've just skipped through and watched the York goals. I did notice that Ardley's tactic of passing along the back line finally led to a goal chance.
The York striker took it well.
Out of morbid curiosity, I've just watched their first goal again. I find it incredible that the Notts player who is beaten in the air by the York player is Enzio Boldewijn!!! What the f@ck his he doing defending a hopeful cross from the touchline on the edge of our six yard box in the 15th minute of a home game??? Rawlinson and Lacey are within a yard or two of him, but both leave Enzio to challenge. If Enzio was further up the pitch waiting to pick up the headed clearance which should have come from either centre back, he's shown he can sometimes take advantage. I just don't get why he is playing so deep so early on in a home game. Watch it on YouTube from 30:10 minutes.
Can any of the Ardley lovers explain it to me?
What worries me is that a number of issues seem clear as day to pretty much everyone apart from our management team, such as:
- Diamond isn't working - not enough width, not enough attacking threat
- Slow build up and passing around the back is not only frustrating to watch, it's ineffective and even dangerous
- Enzio is a winger. He can do two things: cut inside and shoot or beat his man and cross. Why isn't he playing on the wing?
- Still don't have a ball-winning midfielder
- A few of the new signings seem like complete gambles (Sloth, Sam, even Rodriguez) and may not be cut out for this level of football
Think about the teams you've seen at this level or even above that have been successful. How many achieved success by playing slow, patient, tippy-tappy football in their own half? I can't think of a single one. So why does Ardley persist with something that is almost certainly not going to work? What's wrong with wingers beating their man, mixing it up, putting teams under pressure by making them defend in and around their area, and passing forwards?
Honestly, I'm tired of watching this bloody team wait to 'click.' We just need to sign decent players who are suitable for this level and get a manager in who can play effective, winning football. We should aim to be the team that nobody wants to play against, not the one teams look forward to.
Sort it out Ardley, and sort it quick.
I get the feeling Ardley makes a simple game seem very complicated.
