Kevin Nolan got just 5 league games that season before he was sacked.

That's a fact.

We went on to have two more managers that season and were relegated from the football league for the first time in the club's long history.

Also a fact.

A lot on here were calling for his head... a lot on here have called for heads to roll for as long as NCM has ran. Many said we can’t do worse and many want managers that are often unrealistic.
We have had a succession of managers since the glory days of Munto. All have got progressively worse or else we wouldn’t have found ourselves where we do today.
Too often sacking a manager is the easy way out. A simple google of the longest serving managers in the EFL will show so called smaller clubs with the longest serving managers and all have had recent success. Top of the shop is Simon Weaver, next Gareth Ainsworth and 3rd longest serving is John Coleman. All of these clubs have had periods of stability and built upon this over time.
Some on here sound like Forest fans in the respect that we are somehow this massive club that should be much higher up the football pyramid. Thankfully football is not as simple as the team with the biggest budget is the most successful, if it was it would a pointless sport to watch.
I would give Ardley more time because I really want him to succeed. I want the club to try and remain loyal for as long as possible as I feel we will reap the reward of this loyalty.
Time of course will tell.

Harrogate - manager is the chairman's son, they had 7 season ticket holders when the chairman bought them
Wycombe - got the job as player/caretaker at a level you'd expect them to be, never been relegated
Accrington - They were in tier 6 when he first took charge, never been relegated, massively overachieving.

A fair comparison would be a club that's appointed a manager when they're already underachieving, got them relegated to their lowest ever level and then took them back up to a level they'd expect to be.

I know you'll do your usual "it's ridiculous to quote the Munto season", but I don't think it is. It proves the point that if you've got a good squad of players, changing managers doesn't have to automatically end in failure.

Robins returned for a 2nd spell in April 2017 when Cov were already doomed and got them straight back up.

That’s not Nolan’s fault and it certainly isn’t Ardley’s.

See edit: He joined towards the end of 2016/17 when it was too late. He was already popular there returning for a 2nd spell, he won the FL Trophy within a month of being there.

Just double checked where Coventry were the day Robins took over.

Not a good squad a great squad.

Watford are another rare example you can cherry pick. The list of examples soon runs out.

The reason quoting the Munto season is ridiculous because we have paid in spades for that one truly amazing season and that approx 2 year period of short term success.

It was a fake, unsustainable and thoroughly enjoyable period what followed certainly wasn't.

None of this needs explaining to any proper supporter. Spending money we haven't got is the single main reason we are where we are. Above any one chairman or manager. Reckless unsustainable overspending for a prolonged period is always going to catch up with you eventually. Sadly it didn't take long for the detrimental and now longstanding impact to hit Notts. It the crippled the club as owners and managers came and went.
