This year he has his own players, a full pre season under his belt and the backing of some seemingly understanding owners. That these owners have given him time fills me with some confidence for the future whether with or without Ardley.

I understand why some people are so against him, it’s an emotional and passionate sport after all, but the common sense thing right now I feel is to give him this season....or long enough to realise that we aren’t going to go up this year, and then reassess.

We all now how sacking a manager after 4 games can pan out so I’m all for giving him at least enough rope to hang himself!
The problem with the whole debate is that it's being couched in terms of people being "pro-Ardley" or "anti-Ardley".

I'm neither. I'm happy to leave the owners to judge him.

I see certain aspects of Ardley's management that I quite like, and others that annoy me, but I thought he did reasonably well last season to get us to the play-off final, considering the state the club and the squad was in at the start of the season. Yes, the game at Wembley was awful, but that was out of context with our previous form which had been improving nicely before the lockdown.

Where most supporters can probably agree is that the onus is now on the manager to deliver promotion this season, and we should expect to be at or near the top of the league fairly quickly so we're in position to kick on when other teams with smaller squads struggle during the winter months. The result at Dover was a poor start, and even a 0-0 draw would still have been disappointing, so we need to get a win against Altrincham to shake off the rust and kick start the season.

If we get into the deep winter months and we're any lower than the play-off places, then people will understandably begin to question whether Ardley is getting enough out of the squad, and the owners may be amongst those asking that question, but for now let's see how things progress.

The days of sacking managers on a whim or at the behest of noisy message boards have gone under these owners, and thank God for that!

Thers lies the problem, i expect that Ardley will do just enough to keep in touch, or be in the lower play off places, without mounting a series challenge on the top position
One then has to look at the squad we have, and the resources available . Have we got a squad that is Champions material, and if Ardley fails to get us finishing top , he have failed. Or do we have a squad that is only really play off material, so If Ardley gets us to the play offs he has done a fair job??

Watford are another rare example you can cherry pick. The list of examples soon runs out.

The reason quoting the Munto season is ridiculous because we have paid in spades for that one truly amazing season and that approx 2 year period of short term success.

It was a fake, unsustainable and thoroughly enjoyable period what followed certainly wasn't.

None of this needs explaining to any proper supporter. Spending money we haven't got is the single main reason we are where we are. Above any one chairman or manager. Reckless unsustainable overspending for a prolonged period is always going to catch up with you eventually. Sadly it didn't take long for the detrimental and now longstanding impact to hit Notts. It the crippled the club as owners and managers came and went.
This is a topic that we have discussed before
If a club spends money they can,t afford they have to be promoted

Many clubs have gambled and won , examples Leicester City, Burnley, and more recently Aston Villa who spent a staggering 100 million on transfers in the championshio, and it was a close call only eventually getting thru cus WBA had their captain sent off, then the gamble decided on a penelty shootout
Alan Hardy gambled, ( worth about 10 million in the chamoionship compared to 750,000 in L2, and higher gate receipts usually) and lost, mainly due to the officilas during the coventry play of defeat, i pointed out if things had been different it could quite easily be us in the Chamoionship today , like luton, wycombe, coventry all have that were around us, even lincoln in league 1
Ray Trew was similar bought the club for a £1 , and then wanted Chamoionship football

Most clubs are now being kept afloat by rich owners, in the championship for example more than half the clubs are operating at a loss, even our neighbours Forest have lost 25 million in the last 5 years ( of course there willing to risk all for the 100 million pay out for reaching the promised land ) . Most in the lower leagues are barely keeping there heads above water, all desperate for promotion that brings more money to a club

It's a fair question you ask, because the precise level of talent in our squad is a matter of opinion and all of us will see it differently.

Overall, I'd say our squad is at least as strong as the other major contenders, and that's before we get to see what Rodrigues, Sloth and Sam can offer as and when they settle in. If any or all of those players prove to be top class for this level, then there's a strong argument to say we should be capable of winning the title, but that still doesn't rule out intangibles like injuries to our star players like Roberts, which could be the difference between winning or drawing/losing a couple of games, and the difference between 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.

Ultimately, the owners will have an idea of what this squad is capable of achieving, what success or failure will look like, and how much time and patience they wan to give the manager. It isn't an exact science, so in my view they should be be left to make that call without too much pressure from supporters, given what they've done so far to get the club solvent and surviving COVID. Nobody has a greater reason to want and demand success than the Reedtz family after their investment to date.

Head above the parapet Swale I still lean towards out. Great result and Mr Ardley seems to be willing to change his very negative formation but I am yet to be convinced.

    Lol.

If there had been a late Barnet equaliser , and the 3-0 lead had been thrown away this thread would be over 400 posts by now without a doubt.

We can all be glad that didn't happen.
