Thread: Dyche - the real problem

  1. #11
Thing is if the recruitment team have been told not to look for anybody unless we sell either Tarkowski or Pope or both. Therefore it beggars the question if this is the promised land of football and the championship play-off final is dubbed the richest game in football then where has all the dosh gone from the last 4 seasons?
Dont tell me it is in the dry powder room because I simply cannot believe that.If the club is skint then either the board are incompetent or the PL is not what it is cracked up to be.

The current accounts show a nett profit of just £5 million quid, the wages and running costs are quite extraordinary. It seems to me that Garlick is keeping the powder dry and hoping for another Dyche miracle.

Seems to me that Garlic will be pocketing the money and we will be playing in the championship next season with a new manager and half a squad gone.. TBF we are only a championship club at best punching above our weight.

Those accounts ended Jun 2019 though. The financial year for 2020 was extended by a month to cover the season end change so figures to July 2020 may be causing concern, given the TV rebate and lack of a big sale this time. We spent £7m more on Jay, Josh and BPF than we got for Tom and Nahki. Drinkwater and Joes wages wouldn’t help.
The changes to Chinese overseas income and TV income for this year will be causing pain too.

Extract from 2017 accounts suggest a plan to develop talent, which seems to have been forgotten with several youngsters walking away from their contract.

Reading the accounts to find this, I noticed Sean was given great praise every year till 2019 when “all staff“ were thanked by the chairman in Feb 2020.
Bit of a public slap in the face

One of the problems we have is that we are Burnley and probably the most unfashionable clubs in the premiership. I have heard that even though we met the asking price the player just didn't see Burnley as a credible step in their football career. There are even 'credible' stories that a foreign 'target' when approached said no as he didn't even know we were in the Premiership, and neither did his agent.

We are all die hard Burnley fans and love the club but we are not an attractive club in the eyes of the modern professional football player. (And their family).

I would hazard a guess that players would rather play for a well known Championship club than 'Burnley'.

I find it incredible that a founder member of the Football League and five years on the bounce in the EPL are "not an attractive club in the eyes of the modern professional football player."

FFS Manchester is on the doorstep, and the delights of the Ribble Valley are a spit and a stride down the road.

Careful, C_M, you will be getting accused of calling us little old Burnley by telling the truth.
You must know that, in reality, lots of players are just longing to join Burnley but we never ask them.

Come on BT, a nice area and Manchester counts for nothing to a player when all he hears is that many of the club's own fans say that we are going to be relegated every season. A real boost to any player who is thinking of moving.

Are you on a wind up Sub ? Or are you seriously suggesting that before signing a contract with us, players check this msgboard, see the likes of me and Alto predicting doom and gloom, and then tell their agents to call it off and find them a club where the fans don't moan ? Seriously ?

He looks like exactly what BFC need-a bit of flair and creativity up front.

you got the Job - CB....the New Burnley Scout !

but hold on....you can't be all willy-nilly and unrestricted - going around finding good quality players all over the place...distribute them evenly, you know - that'll upset the levels, disturb the order of things - have to keep the pedestals properly positioned for certain teams and "special ones" who know how to invent the field etc...topsy turvy flaky stuff, build excitement, drop the ball - and sell the merchandise !
