An excellent point Islay. The Scottish banking sector has diminished massively since the 1970's under the continual mis-management of the UK government, its clear that without taking drastic action like voting for independence that there will be no RBS branches left in Dundee

Whatever happened to the SNPs promise to abolish the “unfair council tax” as they put it.

17 years on from Sturgeon wanting to scrap it, yup it’s still here.
Spot on, a legitimate criticism and one that I'm surprised we don't hear that much about - its something people care more about than gender reform and inclusive policies

That would of course would be the decision a sensible government would take, however successive UK governments have shown to be clinging to old colonial past and like to see themselves as a big military power which they see as requiring to remain a nuclear force.

I'm sure the good people of Scotland would be delighted to see an end to Nuclear weapons and would celebrate the decommissioning, however as Scotland would only be entitled to 10% of the weapons in line with 10% of debt - we are unlikely to be able to decommission the lot.

However we could sell them on the black market to raise enough cash to pay down the debt

    Taxing property is unfair.

I benefit hugely from council tax, I shouldn't.

I think council tax provides a very small amount of money for local authorities. Not sure what the percentage is but I think it is less than 20%. Nobody pays anything like the amount needed to provide all our local services.
