MillersMad Matchthread - The Millers v Luton Town

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen. Tonight we welcome Luton Town, our first league game against them since the minus season which is they season that saw us, Luton and Bournemouth. All three teams will play against each other again but we've all taken very different routes to get here.
Bournemouth have paid big and got themselves into the Premiership by vastly overspending. Funny really how that was the cause of their -17 point start to the season that year.
The Millers have been through the mill more times than soft Mick since that season, playing in Sheffield, getting new owners and building a fabulouse stadium that should give us stability.
Luton have gone down and back up again. They're looking at building a new stadium and consolidating their position int Championship.
Personally I'm happier playing Luton Town this season more than I am Bournemouth. Not because Bournemouth usually give us a hiding, no, it's because I'm as glad to see Luton back in the League just as much as I am to see Wimbledon. It's like a long friend that's come home. It just feels right! I also hope that at the end of the season we're all no lower than we are now.

There seems to have been a dip in our preformances since the Reading game and there seems to be a bit of stick flying around after the Stoke game. That game was never going to be a good feel game compared to what happened Wednesday last. Everyone still has there own right to their opinion but let's keep it real guys and dolls.

We are better than the last time we were int Championship and we'll get better but whatever happens from now on we must enjoy it! Being in the Championship and being on par with the oponents is what we want! The results will come!

    Be brave tonight Millers!

    COME ON YOU REDS!!!!

We need to pick an adventurous team and include Julian, Dick, Anne, George (an early LGBT candidate) and Timmy.

I too am pleased to see Luton back at this level. Had some great games over the years, none more so than in 1982 in old league 2 ( now Championship) when we drew 2-2 with a Luton team on their way back to the top division. Those of you of a certain age will remember this was one of two games (due to last minute penalty misses) that ultimately cost us a chance of our joining them in the top league. The other being Newcastle.

The game is still on You Tube as per link below:

Who can forget their last game of the season a couple of years later when they won at Man City to stay up in the first division.
A certain David Pleat running across the pitch with Barry Davies shouting “just look at his face”.

After that like us and Bournemouth, they fell on hard times in the noughties and suffered an outrageous 30 point deduction which effectively relegated them to the conference.

Since then they have clawed their way back up to the Championship and it is great to see.

Good luck to them for the rest of the season....except when they play us of course.
