There was a flu pandemic in 1957 that killed one and a half million worldwide, and another in 1968 that killed another million.
The 1918-19 Spanish Flu still stands alone with a death toll of up to fifty million. Strangely this Pandemic vanished as quickly as it appeared.

The Spanish flu epidemic is an interesting case study in virology, it is likely but not entirely proven that it disappeared rapidly by mutating over time into less lethal strains, they did sequence the Spanish flu gene from a body buried in permafrost, a monkey was subsequently injected with the virus and died, apparently the virus caused an over reaction of the host immune system causing death... let’s hope Covid-19 mutates to a weaker strain in a similar way and quickly!!!
