Apparently a senior police officer and a barrister have stated that fines currently being levied for Covid non essential travel journeys have no basis in law and no action can be taken if they are not paid and in their view they should not be paid.

This is because non essential travel is proving to be too problematic as it can be easily challenged. Its too subjective and so far a highly specified definition for non essential is not available. The CPS as thus far withdrawn all cases requesting prosecution for non payment.

Therefore refuse to pay and dont declare to the insurance company if you are stopped by plod.
