These bits of wood........are small offcuts from a small tree that was cut down and are about the size of logs you’d put on a wood burner
I wouldn't worry about it Mick. Over a three year period they've already gone from being half a dozen small tree stumps capable of preventing a vehicle ploughing through the front of your hedge and mowing you down on your drive, to being offcuts form a small tree and small enough to put on a wood burner. Either those stumps are a. bigger than first suggested, b. you've got a massive wood burner, or c. they'll have shrunk to the size of matchsticks by the time the council get around to doing anything .

I wouldn’t fret too much about instructions from the Parish Council. For my sins I spent a number of years as Parish Council Chairman. I spent most of my time trying to stop self interested councillors from infuriating most of the villagers. Self serving busybodies with too much time on their hands thinking up ways to annoy people for the only reason being that they could!Bunch of ars*holes most of them.
Needless to say I didn’t last long......trying to improve things for the majority, no chance! Getting planning permission for councillors vested interests....through on the nod! Corruption personified. Don’t get me started on Town or County Councils, they’re even worse!

Just ignore them, total ****s with no power whatsoever. Even if they had it would take until eternity to get anything done!
    Nothing changes!

On the subject of busy bodies, Was speaking to a mate of mine this morning who lives very close to me. His boundary fence borders a bridal path. The path is 20ft wide.

His fence has a barbed wire strand along the top as he has a field of several acres that local farmers rent to keep livestock in.

A local rambling club contacted him and are threatening legal action as the barbed wire is nailed facing the (public) bridal path. He called them to discuss it and reasoned that as public access was a 20ft wide gap, was this an issue? Yes they said and we will pursue this.

They’re a retired rambling club with ex solicitors in. Apparently it is illegal although 99% of the population don’t know and don’t care.

He has to pay to have the wire moved a few inches and fixed on his side of the gate post despite him owning all 200m of the fence.

I seriously wonder about some people

Depends on the height of the fence (apparently) and looks like the final decision would rest with the local authorities.......

    '....... Other Legal Restrictions

Section 164 of the Highways Act 1980 says that barbed wire on land adjoining a public highway must not cause a nuisance to humans or animals using the highway. Anything placed below 2.4 metres high will usually be deemed to be causing a nuisance and the local authority can issue a notice demanding its removal.

The Highways Act does not mention the use of nails or broken glass. However, these methods could injure innocent members of the public in the vicinity: a piece of glass could fall and injure someone walking past; or, someone could fall onto a low wall'.

........... it could be worth his while checking this out with his local authority rather than just taking the local rambling association's word for things before paying for or doing anything, especially if his boundary is over 2.4 metres high and/or isn't deemed to be causing a nuisance. The law is the law but it isn't always enforced to the letter regardless of what solicitors or in this case former solicitors may like to suggest.

All of the very best to your pal '39.

    Most ramblers are serial p a e d o s and perverts.

    At the very least they’re a bunch of sad t w a t s.

I’d wrap them in barbed wire just for fun.

Thanks 68. I passed that link on and he tells me his fence is 4 ft high. The barbed wire it has been confirmed needs to be moved 4 inches. The fact that these ramblers have a 20ft gap to walk in and barbed wire can get you regardless of where it is on a post matters not.

They were so upset about it that they threatened to take out a private prosecution if he didn’t change it which his solicitor advised him to do for a quiet life.

Certain people seem to get their knickers in a twist over such minor things. .....meanwhile...Covid ravages the nation, industry and retail is on its knees..the US is in political disintegration

The clue was in double the bin - so double is twice the size for those who frequented school

Couldn’t be bothered 68 to be honest as on a long business trip tomorrow. At the end of the day anybody could pick bones out of anything if they could be bothered or have lots of time on their hands. We do employ a copy writer so perhaps all posts should go through her with a magnifying glass! Have a good weekend!

Fair enough Al'. I wasn't picking the bones out of anything though. Just harmless jokes in both instances. Never mind. Have a nice sleep and attack another day tomorrow. All of the very best to you and yours.
