Whatever Happened To The Novelty Record?

Now this is going back a bit. When I was very little I used to play the 78rpm records that were in the house on the Dansette record player. Things like Buddy Holly and Lonnie Donegan (my sister's). Amongst them was this. The Goons were favourites of my parents and for some reason I was fascinated by this.

What an absolute load of s**t. The guitars aren’t even plugged in! Those old TOTP episodes just bring back memories of all the garbage that was classed as ‘music’. I suppose today’s equivalent is ‘rap’, which isn’t, by any stretch of imagination, music, total garbage. All rap is cr@p.

Lot's of people say that sixties or seventies music was the best ever, but it's not that at all. It's simply a time of your life when you were happy or associated with something relevant, a first kiss, your wedding, your kid's being born etc. You remember the songs about at that time with fondness.
Don't forget the sixties gave us Des O Connor, Rolf Harris and Max Bygraves. The seventies gave us the Osmond's, Bay City Rollers and Gilbert O cockeyed Sullivan.
The truth is there has always been good and bad music and there always will be.

Agreed, ‘kin terrible, to think that people actually paid money for that!

I am amazed people sat at home listening to stuff like Shaddup Your Face or Save Your love.
Even more amazed they took the trouble to go out and pay money for them in the first place.
