£20 on it that Boris and the Tories have a 10 point lead over the Red Rabble by the end of June 2021?
    SERIOUS said

If I'm wrong about Boris, then yes, I think Nigel will step in and do very well in next year's local elections.

I wouldn't dream of betting about public gullibility; there have been too many examples of it in the past 5 years.

Johnson is a busted flush, he only appeals to the super-rich who can pay him to do what they want and people that have no ability to factcheck anything.

Populism is on the wane across the globe as people work out that it is simply a string of empty promises that collapse when faced with reality. Cummings has got out so he does not have to face the flack of a no deal Brexit, that and so he can go back and amend old blogs to make him look like a superforcaster.

History will not be kind to Brexit Tories, the last few years are littered with decisions that have made the UK weaker on the world stage, that's before you even get to the disgraceful handling of COVID.

I'm a bit surprised to be honest Mr serious that you still have confidence in Boris. I would have thought that all your years in business meetings would have given you the ability to spot a bullsh!tter a mile off. You know the sort, they are good at the talking bit but useless when it comes to actions. I saw a few in my working life and it soon became apparent that they were frauds.

I'd be interested in taking your bet but it all seems too vague if it's based on opinion polls, because there are lots of them and the numbers can differ quite a bit.

To be honest Broxtowe I am disappointed with Boris at the present time but I'm just following instinct that by the end of June the Brexit saga will be over and some light at the end of the tunnel seen regarding the Chinese plague. That instinct prompts me to think people's minds will be more relaxed as things hopefully return to something like normal and the anti government sniping on the matter will decrease.

Brexit will be done as far as our full independence is concerned and (not for the Remainers) I'm sure millions more will credit Boris with making what seemed impossible 18 months ago, happen.

You don't have to tell me about Bull****ters - believe me. They came in their droves once my old company became better known. You know the sort ... so called business consultants, Insurance salesmen etc all attempting to tell my boss how to improve his company. They got very short time to speak before they were told politely to f'off. Anyway, Sid's backed off the bet and I assume the Fatboy has, all mouth and no action from both of them. I know you'd take a bet son so I'm happy to offer it and also happy for you to determine how the result can be settled that is fair and reasonable.

I think having a passing acquaintance with objective truth will give you an even better answer. You do know politics isn’t like football where you stick with one side no matter how sh!t they are?

As if to prove it, imo every PM since Thatcher would have done a far better job of managing covid than Johnson regardless of a red or blue rosette. Gordon Brown didn’t win the 2010 election because the Tories successfully pinned the financial crisis on him. How do you think that’s worked out since?

We made the bet ages ago, but you’d forgotten about it you silly sod. I don’t know about Elite but I’m happy to accept an opinion poll from say YouGov. Part owned by a Tory so you’ve got a decent chance, last one in June.

If you forget again, it automatically means I’ve won.

I see BFP has suggested the YouGov poll as the decider. I can't see that as being biased one way or the other, so I would be happy to accept that as the deciding factor if you are in agreement. Your exact words were "£20 on it that Boris and the Tories have a 10 point lead over the Red Rabble by the end of June 2021?" Again a bit vague, and you need to be specific on a bet, but if the conditions are that the Conservative party will be 10 points or more ahead of Labour on the YouGov poll on the 30th June 2021, I'll willingly accept the bet.

Seeing as neither of us seem to be struggling financially, I think we would both prefer the bet to be that the loser made a donation to a charity of the winner's choice.

That looks like an interesting bet. There are many things up in the air which could go either way.

What will be the situation with Covid?
How will the roll-out of the vaccine go?
Will there have been a Brexit deal?
Who will Boris have in his cabinet?
What will the economy performance, and especially unemployment levels be?
How will Labour & KS perform?
What hold did Dominic Cummings have over BJ (if any)?
Does the Chancellor have his eye on the top job?
Can BJ keep all the backbenchers happy, especially those seats who last time changed from Labour?

Spot on, these are undoubtedly turbulent times and any number of variables have to be taken into account.

However, the value part of the bet I have offered is based on just one thing - that Boris Johnson is full of bullsh!t and by June 2021 a significant number of the electorate will have realised it.
