    O/T School Discipline

I never had the cane, but did have the slipper. They were a sadistic bunch at Grammar Schooll and that was just the Head Prefects, but I had to do a few of these after class

I once made a fatal error by writing my own sick note so that I could get out of doing gymnastics at school because I absolutely hated it.

I handed the note to our PE teacher Bob Hand, he was a dead ringer for Chris Bonnington the famous climber.

We were in his office which was about an 8 foot square and on one side there was a very low slung comfy chair.

He read the note and then flashed a glance at me.......he read it again and then read it out load......slowly.

“Michael won’t be able to do PE today as I woke this morning with a sore throat”.

Putting “I” instead of “he” was a huge error.

In a fit of rage he grabbed me by the school tie and attempted to yank me in his direction.

Unfortunately for both of us, I was wearing a clip on tie and it came off in his hand.....he looked a complete t w a t stood their grasping the tie 😆😆

He lunged at me and shoved me across the room and I ended up in his comfy chair which made him even more angry.

    My punishment?

Being made to wear the spare kit to do the lesson in.......remember the smelly yellow sweat stained spares built up over years😫

I escaped the cane and the plimsol but I’ll never be sure how other than being a fast talker and nimble with my excuses.

I was constantly dragged to the front of the class due to my a r s I n g around in lessons and often stood outside classrooms as a mark of shame due to being the class 🤡

The caning was quite brutal at our school in the 70’s, it was severe punishment.

My dad reckoned his senior school was horrific in the late 40’s and early 50’s.

He was one of the first six children to win a scholarship to a place called Ashfield College in Harrogate which has always been a very expensive fee paying school.

My dad told me they had to put their hands palms down against a hard surface whilst the cane cane down on their knuckles 😲🔨

When he was in the army him and 4-5 other lads were made to scrub every inch of an aircraft hanger with toothbrushes 😆😆

When I were at Junior school we had some brutal punishments handed out. I was only 10 but a rap on the knuckles are palm of the hands was commonplace for me as i was caught chucking bits of paper at the kid in the front desk

we were also physically assaulted back then by a teacher who would walk slowly over to your direction when he saw ya talking. He would then proceed to take a deep breath before giving you two very hard slaps to your back in which you felt winded and was probably bruised. Funny how your parents would often think you deserved it.

I never did my homework and was always late, usually walking in halfway through assembly. I only lived over the road.
They put me on detention once but i went home instead, they never put me on it again.
I knew that the only legal requirements were to turn up everyday. Homework and detention are your own time.
I never took anything with me but a Biro, and my pe kit when required.
I didn't wear a uniform, i was sent home but didn't come back, so they didn't send me home again.
Despite all that i did enough to remain in the top class every year, i was never relegated.
I quite enjoyed my school days 😀.

I had the cane three times, had my hair pulled, was whacked with a slipper and with a rod of mild steel. Pretty run of the mill stuff really

As a PE teacher and in the early part of my career corporal punishment was the norm. I used an old trainer and called it 'Uncle Charlie'. Funny thing was that when I met ex pupils after they had left school they always used to laugh and joke about getting Uncle Charlie. None of them held a grudge. Sign of the times I suppose. No snowflakes in those days!

I remember being at junior school and we had a young woman teacher, Miss Payne, and she was a Pain alright, she hadn't the experience or patience to handle a class of seven year olds.
We wrote with pencils and they kept breaking, she thought we were doing it on purpose, she said the next one who brought a pencil to her to sharpen would have a slap.
Just as she said it my pencil broke.
I looked behind me and the lad behind was talking to someone behind him so i quickly swapped pencils.
He hadn't heard her and took the pencil to her. She gave him a right slap across his face. He ran back to his seat crying and as he came past me i put my foot out and sent him sprawling down the aisle. She gave him another slap for running.
    Yep, great fun your schooldays.

I think most of the old teachers were sadistic perverts, anyone who enjoys inflicting pain on children are sick in the head imo.
Violence towards others only teaches kids that violence is acceptable behaviour.
