Why oh why this fascination by one country telling another what it has done wrong. The reality is that every country is different.

I have been to Sweden and Scandinavia and love both areas. I also have Swedish friends who have stayed with me in the UK. However, it is quickly apparent that the average age is so much lower in Sweden than in the UK. BAME although it exists is nowhere near as high as in the UK. The state support in Sweden is totally different and more generous than in the UK.

Three main factors in Covid, especially deaths are age, ethnicity and relative poverty. No great surprise to see what the UK has struggled in comparison given this lack of a level playing field.

Very true and to the point. Some of the things you mention are very valid when Scandinavian countries are compared to one another about how they have handled the pandemic - and Sweden come out negatively.

Keir Starmer - not a clue, new possible signing!?
Swedish, it was your paragraph (quote “ From day one I have been on about capacity, working conditions, stock, PPE, well trained and educated staff within the NHS and the care homes for the elderly, combined with measured and prudent, yes, measures”. unquote).
    to which I referred to.

Until December 2019, no one, other than the Chinese, knew of COVID 19. Globally, no country had time to stockpile ventilators etc. Who would have had warehouses full of what was needed just in case anyway. I don’t see how nations could prepare for something like this pandemic. Staff are trained in halting infectious spread etc. however, it was a learning curve from the start with this virus. The fact the Chinese Government were slow to notify the world what they were dealing with did not help and this was further complicated by Governments globally, failing to act quickly and leaving borders open to long which accelerated the spread globally.

Scientists had been warning of a global pandemic for years.
Like Churchill they were voices in the wilderness. Government's don't like to invest in anything that costs money, people's lives are secondary.
This is why the death case's in this country are the worst in Europe despite the valiant efforts of our NHS teams.
It's also the reason that I don't believe the government is implenting the law's for the benefit of ordinary people.

    In a nutshell, Des. 👌🏻

There are vast differences between European countries in terms of stock, capacity, working conditions, level of education etc within the health sector. I, for one, think that matters.

Neither GB nor Sweden are top of that league btw.

Quite. What I do not understand is Des’ stance.

So Scientists have been warning of a pandemic for years, but did they predict the nature of such a pandemic, and if they did, why did they not have a vaccine in place? We all know through history pandemics occur, having the knowledge of what form one will take would require what, a exceptional crystal ball I suspect.

Why do people think the Government are implementing these laws for if not for the safety of the public, oh! let’s not get onto the theorist favoured go to......it is to keep the masses in check, because that is a load of old tosh and simply does not wash with any level minded person.

So, yet again, the state of a health sector in a pandemic is of no relevance, the number of ICU beds for instance... Talk about ”old tosh”...
