    Penalty takers...

I must say, when Wootton stepped up to take the penalty on Saturday I had the same sense of dread as when Southgate, Batty, and others have for England in the past...only Eric Dier has proved those feelings wrong! Do football fans have a 6th sense for penalty misses, or is it just an inherent pessimism?!

Anyway, surely now it is time for someone else to ‘step up’ and take our penalties from now on following what can only be described as feeble spot kicks by Kyle. So, who is in the running for the job?

If he was on the pitch I’d go for O’Brien. Otherwise I’m not so sure. Enzio? Roberts?

In his interview Kyle suggested there were plenty of good penalty takers in the squad. I would imagine Enzio and Roberts for sure plus JOB, Rúben, Walker, Sam, Reeves, Thomas, Knowles and maybe Brindley for starters?

Problem is Wootton obviously can take a decent penalty but he is now at the point where you either stick with him and let him get his confidence back or drop him, he seems to me to be big enough in character to put the next one away.

Roberts for me when available and if not him his current replacement who's name I forget and cannot be arsed to look up! If Kyle takes and misses the next one though as per above he's a major character in the side and I still have confidence. The last one was a pretty good save.

Is Ray O still on the books?....apart from from being the best left back we've ever had he's up there with Sir Don as our best penalty taker!

Except for that time against Liverpool, when he stuck it yards wide of the post when we were outplaying them in 1982.

As much as that hurt at the time I would be happy to relive that over and over again if it meant we were still competing with the likes of Liverpool!
