This is something the present generation and the PC brigade don’t get, the joke was always the stupidity and ignorance of the white bloke.
That was pretty much what John Cleese said when asked about the editing of Fawlty Towers. He said humour is a great way to make a point. He said the scene with the Major where he uses the 'N' word was simply to show he was an old duffer stuck in the past who hadn't moved with the times yet the same word is accepted without question in many rap songs. Funny old world eh?
