    Covid In Sweden.

Looks like the “genius” professor in Sweden isn’t such an Einstein after all!

Many mistakes have been made in Sweden, as in many (all) other countries. He has been portrayed in media as being more responsible for everything (good and bad) than he actually is (as always with media).

The deficits in ICU-capacity, the poor overall conditions in our care homes for the elderly, the failure to get information out to people who don’t understand Swedish (or English) and live densely populated etc, etc - these things play a major role, and are not the same in our Nordic neighbour countries.

Einstein of course not, Einsteins inhabit this board, the board of simple solutions (expert football managers, expert epidemiologists, expert Brexit negotiators etc). 😎😇😉

Hopefully they certify a vaccine soon for Sweden Thomas! No government has covered itself in glory but then none had a crystal ball, I do think however that most have done what they thought was best. Hope you and the family are ok and get to enjoy Christmas and the New Year.

I’m shocked to hear the care for elderly is so poor in Sweden Thomas, I had visions of a world class service in such a progressive country.

How depressing that you’re the same as us.

Yes, sadly so Mick, many things have gone down hill the last 20 years or so, to be honest.

Frankly it comes as little surprise, the writing was on the wall long, long ago. What does still surprise me though is that finance has come before welfare of the populace in so many countries across the globe.

On a small scale the difference between one government and another is stark.

We, with a population of around 63,000 currently have three cases of Covid 19, all identified returning to the island.

Our neighbours Jersey, 26 miles across the water, have a population of around 107,000 and have 876 cases of Covid 19 rising daily.

There is one reason for the huge difference, simply put, the Government of Jersey decided on a more relaxed method of dealing with the virus and opened their borders straight away following a short lockdown. This was done in order to resurrect a ailing economy and clearly has been to the detriment of public health.

Let’s hope that the vaccines work because without them things will be bleak. A further hope is, that the vaccine is indeed as safe as we are being led to believe, because to date, most governments globally have shown little in the way of great leadership.

Keep safe all, and fingers crossed that as a race of people we can beat this demon as we head off into a new year.

Quite a few surveys, eg one from the OECD, have stated that lockdown, and degree of it, when and for how long it was imposed etc, played little or no role.

Lockdown will however cause a lot of bad health and deaths now and for many years to come with mental issues, depressions, domestic violence, suicides etc, etc.

But, we already know that we disagree on this, so, let’s really hope for this:

” Keep safe all, and fingers crossed that as a race of people we can beat this demon as we head off into a new year.”

    Take care.
