My penance was having Southampton let me down for £800 acca today.

Buddy, good on you for being extra careful and I'm so glad you and the good lady have had a great time. Ironically, while you've been there Scarborough/Whitby have become tier 3 so no harm done.

Personally, we were looking to stay once again at Ravens Hall Hotel. A splendid old stately castle like establishment. Pomp and grandeur and you pay for what you get. Good food and wine and the service is really friendly and warm. Nice big open frieplace to sit around which the owners encourage you to top up with coal and logs. Nice with a large brandy after a meal.

Alas as we were tier 3 we never pursued it, wish we had now reading your post....bloody jealous really

Only people who live in Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas can go on holiday in England in other Tier 1 or Tier 2 areas. I don't know where you live, maybe it's a Tier 2 area.

Now whether the Scarborough area should be in Tier 2 is a different question given the rising rates which are higher than a lot of tier 3 areas including Rotherham, Doncaster, Sheffield and Barnsley. Or if we should be in Tier 2.

UK holidays should be encouraged, it keeps money in the country. I would normally take a couple each year, though no longer sure about Scotland and giving money to Sturgeon. Its just when gov message is to stay local, I think we shouldn't encourage travel across UK, especially to an area with high rates which is being hidden in Tier 2 of the rest of North Yorkshire.

True, Scarborough hospital might have good capacity, maybe lower rates in the over 60s, etc. Though doubt they have as the local Scarborough council level, like Rotherham is Tier 3. But they are Tier 2 as its done on a county level, with the much lower rates across the rest of N Yorks masking the rates.

No matter its tier if rates are higher and also rising then a higher chance of catching it and bringing it back to another area.

That’s not true either. It’s worded and written in a very specific way on purpose.

To call it semantics is to ignore why it’s worded that way. Lots of legal documents are worded this way.
