    Boris and Covid

At the time it was announced that he had contracted the virus our family like most of the country were concerned about his condition. We listened to the bulletins on his progress. They said that he had been taken into intensive care and put on a ventilator.
We were pleased when they said he was now breathing on his own.
Then last week on TV we were told that he had only had a mild form of the virus, and had been taken into intensive care purely as a precaution due to his position, they said he was never put on a ventilator.
    What do you believe?

Stanley Johnson’s mother and grandmother were French born and bred. Therefore he is half French and entitled to apply. He campaigned for Remain. Doesn’t follow he has to follow his sons politics

His sister Rachel is a massive remainer.

Good to see free speech is alive and kicking in the Johnson family.

    Nothing to see here.

We are all different. My connection with Europe is 0. When I was at school and we were told to write a project about somewhere in the world I chose South America. Europe would have been the last choice. Just no interest.

EU or no EU - GB and the British Isles are still situated within the continent of Europe, or have I missed something!? 😳

Geographically yes, but you have to go way back into our history to get the full picture.
We are basically a Germanic race the same as Scandinavians, the people we displaced were Celtic tribes who now live in Cornwall, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. The Cornish and old Scottish language became extinct but Welsh and Irish gaelic is still spoken although becoming rare.
1066 was the watershed, if we had won the Battle of Hastings we would probably have become a Scandinavian alliance. But the Normans, although Scandinavian in descent brought a lot of French culture into our society. This never brought us close as nations though and for a thousand years we have been at war off and on with them. They have never liked us and we have never liked them.
Germany had always been our ally until the twentieth century when they got ideas above their station, and thought it okay to systematically murder millions of people who didn't conform to their creed or culture.
These were the reasons i have always been anti EU, they have never liked us and i knew that they would have got the Lions share of the good things and I wanted no alliance with a country of mass murderers who had been forgiven just two decades later.
Do you really think Germany had they won would have apologised for Coventry and other cities they flattened, and given back the countries they had conquered?
I know it's all ancient history now but it wasn't in 1973.

Your last point is a very good one Des.

In 1973 the year of 1945 was 28 years previous.

That’s like asking people today to brush off stuff that happened at the time we beat Port Vale in the 3rd division play off final.

If you’d lost your dad or had your family gassed to death on the day we picked up that trophy would you want to be joined at the hip with Germany now.

Some people just don’t get this.

My grandads absolutely hated the Germans and I grew up in that post war family mindset albeit I don’t hate the Germans myself.

Yes, my point was geographical and continent-wise - not that many continents to choose from to be honest. 😇😎

My great gran hated the Germans, she was 23 when WW1 started and 38 when the second one broke out. Mind you she disliked a lot of people especially those from Bilston.
My dad was stationed in Germany and he liked them and they liked him, he played in a football team with them.
Then again, he was six foot and had blond hair and blue eyes.
