    Lisa and Sarah

Lisa and Sarah have worked together in a large office for the past 5 years.
Both are good at their jobs and work hard.
One day, Lisa opens Sarah's wage packet by mistake, and is horrified to find that Sarah is being paid more than herself.
Although she considers Sarah to be a good friend, who usually accompanies her on girls night's out, she instantly feels demoralised and undervalued as a person.
She storms upstairs to confront the manager and demands that Sarah's wages be cut to the same rate as hers or she will leave.
That afternoon the manager calls Sarah to his office and tells her he is reluctantly deducting 50p per hour from her salary.
Initially upset, Sarah soon cheers up. Tonight she will find out who killed Fred in Emmerdale, and the coming weekend she is off to see Mrs May open a new food bank in her local town.

What Des is trying to point out is the mentality of the average Brit.

Someone sees they are paid less than their co worker but instead of insisting on a pay rise for yourself you ask for your mates wages to get reduced.

The mate, who then has their wages reduced is quite rightly miffed but soon let’s it pass at the thought of what’ll be revealed in a soap opera that evening and is uplifted at the prospect of being able to visit a new food bank where she can no doubt cover any losses in her wages.

I think it’s an attempt to express how small minded and easily pleased the average British manual worker is.

Help me out here Des? 😆😆
