John Gissing came from Stapleford Old Boys as a te€nager and made his debut for Notts a week or two short of his 19th birthday. Don Roby was the regular winger and was probably the reason Gissing made so few appearances for Notts. He moved on to Chesterfield, then Alfreton and finally Ilkeston, where his career was cut short because of a broken leg. He later had a short spell as Stapleford Old Boys manager.

I love this sort of research, especially when it's a player I saw but had forgotten all about.

He looks fairly young in the picture below. Possibly taken around the time of his debut.
