To clarify. I’ve said before that in the area of Spain I went to the figures were exceedingly low and yet adherence to mask wearing was 100% in shops (compare that with Andy’s recent tales of ASDA) and an estimated 85% in the streets.

Was it foolish? There was certainly some degree of risk - there is with everything - but at the time (Sept/Oct) I broke absolutely no rules, took extra precautions on the plane, made sure I had the correct QR codes, only visited outdoor bars and restaurants, filled the car with fuel on the way to the airport so I didn’t have to stop on the way back and then self isolated for 14 days.

Frankly I believe I’d have been more at risk in Asda with Andy or in any UK classroom environment in the company of thirty odd kids.

I went to Greece for 4 days about the same time and echo your "lower risk" assessment rA. Wouldn't do it now though, yet still people do, albeit we aren't allowed to travel so widely.

Yes probably higher risk going to fill up fuel if winter shorts man was filling his van at the same time, but doubt much risk in schools as first day back probably a ****ing inset day

Steady on rA, aren't you supposed to be "risk averse"?

    I know...amazing isn’t it?

I wouldn’t do it right now either, GP...things have deteriorated a lot since early October.

I want to visit a relative in Germany..... and raid the local vineyards while I'm there as some of my stocks are very low.

The border is open so I could drive there. No hotels open though and the relative lives in a tiny flat. Also there's the little matter of quaraintine for 10 days a) when I get there and b) when I get back.....

I could drive there and back in a day but that would entail 9 hours driving in total.....

    Simply not worth the hassle.

I'd look at it like this MA. I'd love to visit my mum 2.5 hours away, who I haven't seen since the summer. But even with no cross border or quarantine aspect I wouldn't.

Even if she did have some wine for me as delayed Xmas present, especially if it were German wine (although I believe the stuff they keep for domestic market is a grade up on Blue Nun)

I'm not au fait with all German wines but I do know, from personal experience, that the wines from the Nahe Valley, especially the vineyards in the general area of Bad Sobernheim and Bad Kreuznach produce some excellent wines. One of them was asked to produce a sparkling Rose for Charles and Di's wedding. Not all of it got sent to England Some 15 or so years ago I was treated to a glass of it and very nice it was too.

That was like Plymouth away in the FA Cup quarter final in the mid eighties, 0-0, that wasn't worth it the hassle, either.

That was on a different level of not being worth the hassle

Mind you the replay wasn't too great either
